Dianchi Lake, also known as Lake Dian and Kunming Lake, is a large lake located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau close to Kunming, Yunnan, China. Its nickname is the "Sparkling Pearl Embedded in a Highland" and it was the model for the Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace in Beijing. Its name is the source of Yunnan's Chinese abbreviation 滇.
The elongate bitterling is a species of freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae. It is found only in shallow water areas along the shores of Lake Dianchi in China.
Cobitis is a genus of small freshwater fish in the family Cobitidae from temperate and subtropical Eurasia. It contains the "typical spiny loaches", including the well-known spined loach of Europe. Similar spiny loaches, occurring generally south of the range of Cobitis, are nowadays separated in Sabanejewia.
Cyprinus micristius, the Dianchi carp, is a critically endangered species of ray-finned fish in the family Cyprinidae. It is found only in Lake Dianchi and its tributaries in Yunnan, China. The nominate subspecies from the lake itself has not been confirmed since the 1960s.
Sphaerophysa dianchiensis is a critically endangered species of stone loach endemic to the Dian Lake in China, but it has not been confirmed in decades and is likely extinct.
Triplophysa is a genus of fish in the family Nemacheilidae found mainly in and around the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China. Currently, the genus is a mixed assemblage of species. Some lineages have been identified and treated as subgenera, but as Wikipedia follows Fishbase for fish species all but Hedinichthys have been treated as subgenera in Wikipedia, although Kottelat in his revision of the loaches did recognise them as valid. FishBase, however, includes these in Triplophysa without specifying subgenera and treats the names given by Kottelat as synonyms.
Yunnanilus macrogaster is a hypogean species of stone loach endemic to China. This species is endemic to the endorheic drainage system which feeds the Datangzi Marsh in Luoping County, Yunnan, the marsh has been formed by the outflow of a stream from its underground course. It is a demersal species and the waters where it was found were densely vegetated, it feeds on worms and insects. It is sympatric with Yunnanilus niger and Y, paludosus, forming a small species flock. It lays eggs which is does not guard.
Yunnanilus is a genus of small stone loaches that are endemic to southeastern China, especially Guangxi and Yunnan. They are found in rivers, streams and lakes; some species are restricted to caves.
Fuxian Lake stretches out through Chengjiang, Jiangchuan and Huaning Counties in Yunnan Province, spanning an area of 212 square kilometers. The lake is ranked third-largest in Yunnan, after Dian Lake and Erhai Lake. Also the deepest lake in Yunnan, it is 155 meters deep at its greatest depth. It is also the third-deepest fresh water lake in China, after Tianchi and Kanas Lake.
Schizothorax grahami is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Schizothorax. It is endemic to Lake Dianchi, its tributaries and connected springs, in Yunnan Province, China. The species has not been caught in the lake in the past 20 years, but it is present in one tributary drainage basin. The introduction of exotic fish is the main threat to this species.
Beaufortia polylepis is a species of river loach. It is endemic to the Nanpan River in Yunnan, China. It inhabits rocky streams and measures 3.9–4.8 cm (1.5–1.9 in) standard length.
Yunnanilus brevis, common name Inle loach, is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Yunnanilus, although some authorities place it in the genus Petruichthys. It is only found in Inle Lake and the adjacent He-Ho Plain in the Southern Shan States in Myanmar. It is a demersal fish which occurs in still and slow running waters as well as in a shallow lake, with dense submerged and floating vegetation.
Yunnanilus cruciatus is a species of stone loach endemic to Vietnam. This species grows to a length of 3.4 centimetres (1.3 in) SL. It is sometimes placed in the putative monotypic genus Micronemacheilus but this genus is currently preoccupied by Micronemacheilus zispi, although this species is regarded by some authorities as a junior synonym of Traccatichthys taeniatus. Y. cruciatus occurs in the relatively still and shallow stretches of rivers where there is dense aquatic vegetation and the substrate is muddy and sandy. The species seems to be quite commonly found in the aquarium trade.
Yunnanilus discoloris is a species of ray-finned fish, a stone loach, in the genus Yunnanilus. It is currently only in a single spring in the drainage basin of Lake Dianchi in Yunnan.
Yunnanilus longibarbatus is a species of stone loach. It is endemic to the Hongshui River basin in Guangxi, southern China. It grows to 5.8 cm (2.3 in) SL.
Yunnanilus macrolepis is a species of stone loach which is endemic to China. Its type locality is Luoping County in Yunnan. Some authorities consider Y. macrolepis to be a junior synonym of Yunnanilus paludosus.
Yunnanilus pleurotaenia is a species of stone loach, family Nemacheilidae. It is endemic to Yunnan in southern China. It is known with certainty from Dian Lake and the associated streams; similar fish reported from other lakes might or might not refer to this species. It grows to 6.5 cm (2.6 in) SL.
Kunming nase, Xenocypris yunnanensis, is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Xenocypris. It is endemic to Lake Dianchi in Yunnan Province, China. The species started to decline in the 1970s and has not been caught in the lake after two specimens were collected in 1985; it may be extinct. Its demise is likely due to introduced fish species, grass carp. It was also impacted by over-fishing and pollution. They grow to a maximum length of 23 cm. They are dark grayish with a silvery white belly, gray dorsal fin, reddish anal fin and orange red caudal fin. They have a rounded belly, blunt snout, eyes on the lateral of their heads, small and transverse mouth.
Liobagrus kingi, the King's bullhead, is a species of catfish in the family Amblycipitidae endemic to China, where it is known to occur in the lake Dianchi basin, in its tributaries and effluent river, the Zhangjiu, and two tributaries of the Jinshajiang river in Sichuan and Yunnan. It has not been recorded in the lake since the 1960s. This species grows to a length of 9.5 centimetres (3.7 in) SL.
Yunnanilus qujinensis is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish, a stone loach which is endemic to China. The species was described from specimens collected at a spring into the Hujiafen Reservoir in the Nanpanjiang River drainage near Qujing in Yunnan, its Specific name (zoology) refers to the city of Qujin. It has not yet been included in FishBase.
