Contents

Build quality

The lens has a simple matte-black plastic casing with a Zeiss emblem on the barrel and a rubber focus ring. Given its ultra wide-angle focal length, it is both sturdy and compact.

Optical quality

The lens is sharp in the center from wide open apertures, but needs stepping down to f/5.6 for corners to catch up. [2]

Chromatic aberrations are well controlled [3] and barrel distortion is visible when not corrected but typical for this kind of wide-angle lens. [4] Also vignetting is visible wide open but is diminished when stepping down. [5]

Resistance to flare is average, with sun stars being produced at f/11. [6]
