Åfjord is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the Fosen region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Årnes. Other villages in the municipality include Revsnes, Roan, Bessaker, Harsvika, and By. Åfjord is located on the northwestern side of the Fosen peninsula, northwest of the city of Trondheim.

It encompassed the area of what is now Osen Municipality and part of Åfjord Municipality, much of the western part of the Fosen peninsula in Trøndelag county. Selavatnet is a lake on the border of Åfjord Municipality and Steinkjer Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The majority of the 4.72-square-kilometre (1.82 sq mi) lake lies in Steinkjer Municipality, with the northwestern end of the lake partially lying in Åfjord Municipality. The village of Sela lies on the northern side of the lake and the village of Sandsetra at the southeastern end of the lake. The lake is one of the sources for the Folla river system which flows into the Trondheimsfjord at the village of Follafoss.

The 114-square-kilometre (44 sq mi) municipality was located in what is now Åfjord Municipality in Trøndelag county. The municipality included the islands of Stokkøya and Linesøya plus many surrounding islets, and the surrounding area of the mainland. The administrative centre was the village of Revsnes, where the Stoksund Church is located.

Revsnes or Stoksund is a village in Åfjord Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located on the mainland in the northwestern part of the municipality. The village lies near the south end of the Stokkøy Bridge, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) southeast of the village of Harsvika on the island of Stokkøya. Stoksund Church is located in Revsnes.

Åfjord Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Åfjord Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Årnes, just east of the Åfjorden and west of the lake Stordalsvatnet. It is one of two churches in the Åfjord og Stoksund parish which is part of the Fosen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1879 using plans drawn up by the architect Knut Guttormsen. The church seats 430 people. It was consecrated on 9 October 1879 by Bishop Andreas Grimelund.

The village is located along the Norwegian Sea on the west coast of the Fosen peninsula, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south of the nearby coastal village of Bessaker.
