The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is an American college athletic conference whose member institutions are located primarily in the South Central and Southeastern United States. Its fourteen members include the flagship public universities of ten states, three additional public land-grant universities, and one private research university. The conference is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. The SEC participates in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I in sports competitions; for football it is part of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), formerly known as Division I-A.

The Georgia Bulldogs men's basketball program is the men's college basketball team representing the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Established in 1891, the team has competed in the Southeastern Conference since its inception in 1932. As of 2020 the Bulldogs have amassed a record of 1,434–1,319. Though it has been historically overshadowed by the school's football program, the Bulldogs' basketball squad has had its share of successes, including a trip to the NCAA Final Four in 1983 under head coach Hugh Durham.

It was owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television and shown in more than 50 percent of households in the United States, mostly Southeastern United States markets. SEC TV's football games typically aired in the noon eastern slot that was former home to the Jefferson-Pilot/Raycom Sports SEC game of the week. Games were shown locally on broadcast stations, regional sports networks, as well as on ESPN GamePlan, ESPN Full Court, and WatchESPN.
Michael Emerson White is an American college basketball coach and former player. He is the head coach of the University of Georgia men's basketball team. Prior to accepting the job at Georgia, White was the head coach of the Florida Gators from 2015 to 2022 and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs from 2011 to 2015.
The 2014 Southeastern Conference women's basketball tournament was the postseason women's basketball tournament for the Southeastern Conference (SEC), beginning on March 5, 2014, and ending on March 9, 2014, in Duluth, Georgia, at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. While it determined the SEC's representative in the NCAA tournament, it did not determine the official SEC champion; the conference has awarded its official championship solely on the basis of regular-season record since the 1985–86 season.
Matthew Ollen Insell is the current Associate Head Coach of Women's Basketball at Middle Tennessee State University. Insell was the head coach of the Ole Miss women's basketball team from 2013 to 2018 before he was let go by Ole Miss following the 2018 season. Prior to his time at Ole Miss, Insell spent 5 years as an Assistant Coach at the University of Kentucky and one year as the Director of Basketball Operations at Louisiana Tech University. On May 7, 2018, Matt Insell was hired to work as assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State University. September 20, 2022, Matt Insell was promoted to Associate Head Coach at Middle Tennessee State University.
The 1981 SEC men's basketball tournament took place from March 4–7, 1981 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Alabama. The Ole Miss Rebels, who represents the University of Mississippi won their first SEC tournament title in the championship game by defeating the Georgia Bulldogs by a score of 66–62. Ole Miss also received the SEC’s automatic bid to the 1981 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. Television coverage was regionally syndicated by the now-defunct TVS Television Network.

Andy Kennedy was in his 11th year as head coach of Ole Miss. The Rebels were members of the Southeastern Conference and played their home games at The Pavilion at Ole Miss. They finished the season 22–14, 10–8 in SEC play to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place. They defeated Missouri in the second round of the SEC tournament before losing in the quarterfinals to Arkansas. They were invited to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Monmouth and Syracuse before losing in the quarterfinals to Georgia Tech.
The 2017–18 Ole Miss Rebels men's basketball team represented the University of Mississippi in the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, their 108th basketball season. They were coached by Andy Kennedy for the first 27 games of the season before he left the position on February 19, 2018. The Rebels named assistant coach Tony Madlock interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The Rebels played their second full season in The Pavilion at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi as members of the Southeastern Conference. They finished the season 12–20, 5–13 in SEC play to finish in last place. They lost in the first round of the SEC tournament to South Carolina.
