The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the 100-meter (109.36 yd) dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The inaugural World Championships were in 1983.

The 200 metres, or 200-meter dash, is a sprint running event. On an outdoor 400 metre racetrack, the race begins on the curve and ends on the home straight, so a combination of techniques is needed to successfully run the race. A slightly shorter race, called the stadion and run on a straight track, was the first recorded event at the ancient Olympic Games. The 200 m places more emphasis on speed endurance than shorter sprint distances as athletes predominantly rely on anaerobic energy system during the 200 m sprint. Similarly to other sprint distances, the 200 m begins from the starting blocks. When the sprinters adopt the 'set' position in the blocks they are able to adopt a more efficient starting posture and isometrically preload their muscles. This enables them to stride forwards more powerfully when the race begins and start faster.

The 2022 United States House of Representatives elections were held on November 8, 2022, as part of the 2022 U.S. elections during incumbent president Joe Biden's term. The Republican Party won a narrow majority of seats and will be the majority party in the House in the 118th U.S. Congress. The elections were held to elect representatives from all 435 U.S. congressional districts across each of the 50 states, as well as five non-voting members of the U.S. House of Representatives from the District of Columbia and four of the five inhabited insular areas. Numerous other federal, state, and local elections, including the 2022 U.S. Senate elections, were also held on the same date. At the time of the election, the Democratic Party had held a majority in the House since January 3, 2019, as a result of the 2018 elections, when they won 235 seats; their majority was reduced to 222 seats in 2020.
