The 2017 Singapore Community Shield (also known as the Great Eastern Community Shield for sponsorship reasons) was the 10th edition of the Singapore Community Shield held on 26 February 2017 at National Stadium, between the winners of the previous season's S.League and Singapore Cup competitions. The match was contested by 2016 Singapore Cup winners Albirex Niigata (S) and 2016 S.League runners-up Tampines Rovers. [1]

The Singapore Community Shield is the curtain-raiser to the football season in Singapore. The match is contested between the champions of the previous Singapore Premier League season and the Singapore Cup winners. In a situation when the same team wins both competition, then it is contested between the Singapore Premier League's champions and runners-up.

National Stadium, Singapore Stadium in Singapore

The National Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Kallang, Singapore. It opened its doors on 30 June 2014, replacing the former National Stadium at the same site, which was closed in 2007 and demolished in 2010.

Contents

This was the first time whereby a Shield match was played at the new National Stadium after opening in 2014.

Albirex Niigata (S) won the Shield for the second consecutive time after defeating Tampines Rovers 2–1.

It was founded as the Singapore Amateur Football Association in 1892, which lays claim to being the oldest Football Association in Asia.
