Extremely strong and cordial relations exist between Bahrain and Pakistan . [1] Bahrain maintains an embassy in Islamabad and a Consulate-General in Karachi, whilst Pakistan maintains an embassy in Manama. Both countries are members of the OIC and of the G 77. [2]

After the British left, Pakistan originally called for the territory to be merged into with the Trucial States of the United Arab Emirates, with which it had recognized in the same year despite this however diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Pakistan were established in 1971. [3] [4] [5]

State visits

2005 – Prime Minister's Visit

Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz visited Bahrain and met with Muhammad bin Isa Al Khalifa. [6] Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa during his visit to Pakistan termed Pakistan as his second home and further stated that Pakistan was the country which is held in the highest esteem by the leadership and the people of Bahrain. [2]

2011 – President of Pakistan's Visit

President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, visited the Kingdom of Bahrain and met with His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa. Both leaders agreed to bolster bilateral relations and consolidate cooperation in the economic, trade and political fields, to the benefit of both countries and peoples. His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed resolve to boost ties as talks at Al-Safriya Palace on relations of friendship and bilateral cooperation in all fields. They also discussed political developments on both regional and international arenas. HM the King welcomed President Zardari, stressing the importance of the visit in opening up new horizons for more cooperation. The two leaders discussed the political situation, stressing the importance of promoting security and stability towards achieving comprehensive development goals. The two sides agreed to continue their joint coordination and consultation. [7]

2014 – HM King Hamad's visit to Pakistan

His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa visited Pakistan and held detailed meetings with the Pakistani leadership, with a view to consolidating and upgrading the relations between both countries. Subsequent to his meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, six agreements were signed between both countries, giving a further boost to the bilateral ties.

2015 – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's visit to Bahrain

Upon the invitation of his majesty, the King of Bahrain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, visited the Kingdom of Bahrain to hold detailed meetings with the Bahraini leadership. In addition to his meetings with the King, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also met with H.R.H. Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain and senior royals. Further agreements between both countries were signed paving the way for further strengthening co-operation in all areas of bilateral relations.

A Growing Relationship

The visit of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa to Pakistan and the return visit by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif opened a new chapter in the relationship between Pakistan and Kingdom of Bahrain. In view of the various co-operation agreements that were signed between both countries. Soon after the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's visit, he appointed his Special Envoy, Javed Malik, as Pakistan's New Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain with a clear mandate to consolidate, strengthen and enhance the ties between both countries with a focus on economic and trade relations.

First Bilateral Political Consultations in Islamabad

In July 2016, Pakistan and Bahrain held their first bilateral consultations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, with a view to agreeing a roadmap aimed at expanding and enhancing the relations between both countries. [8]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">House of Khalifa</span> Ruling family of Bahrain

The House of Khalifa is the ruling family of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Al Khalifas profess Sunni Islam and belong to the Anizah tribe, some members of this tribe joined the Utub alliance which migrated from Central Arabia to Kuwait, then ruled all of Qatar, more specifically Al Zubarah, which they built and ruled over before settling in Bahrain in the early 17th century. The current head of the family is Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who became the Emir of Bahrain in 1999 and proclaimed himself King of Bahrain in 2002, in fact becoming a constitutional monarch.

Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa is a Bahraini diplomat who served as Bahrain's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2005 until January 2020. Khalid became only the second foreign minister in Bahrain's history after replacing Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa who then became Bahrain's deputy prime minister.

Earlier, Malik also served as Pakistan's Ambassador at Large for Overseas Pakistanis between 2008 and 2011. The Libya–Pakistan relations are the international and bilateral relations between Libya and Pakistan. The relations remains friendly and bonded throughout its history as both countries shares similar religious identities, cultural links, particularly their Islamic heritage. The bilateral relations were established in the 1950s when King Idris agreed to provide financial aid to the then impoverished Pakistan.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bahrain–India relations</span> Bilateral relations

Political, socio-economic, military and cultural ties exist between India and Bahrain. India is a close ally of Bahrain. As per Indian officials, the Kingdom along with its GCC partners are amongst the world's most prominent supporters of India's candidacy for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, and Bahraini officials have urged India to play a greater role in international affairs. For instance, over concerns about Iran's nuclear programme, Bahrain's Crown Prince requested India to play an active role in resolving the crisis.

Bahrain Polytechnic is a government-owned tertiary education institute located in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It has been established by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa; King of Bahrain by Royal Decree in July 2008. It is considered a key initiative for the Education and Training Development Committee; a project of the Bahrain Vision 2030 master plan that aims to achieve a sustainable economy. Bahrain Polytechnic delivers applied learning, technical education, skills-based and occupational training. Degrees offered range from certificate courses, diplomas, to bachelor's degree levels.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bahrain–Israel relations</span> Bilateral relations

Relations have existed between Bahrain and Israel since Bahrain achieved its independence in 1971. In recent years, relations between the two countries have been thawing, and the countries agreed to establish diplomatic relations in September 2020. The foreign minister of Bahrain Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa has been quoted saying "Israel is part of the heritage of this whole region, historically. So, the Jewish people have a place amongst us." The common threat of Iran has provided common ground for a thaw in what were once tense relations. Bahrain's foreign policy traditionally supports the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the ministry responsible for handling Qatar's external relations as well as its diplomatic efforts, including the maintenance of its diplomatic missions across the globe. The current minister is Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

King Hamad University of Nursing and Associated Medical Sciences, Islamabad has been established at Chak Shehzad Islamabad with the cooperation of government of Bahrain. King of Bahrain Hamad bin Essa al Khalifa supported the project for establishing the first ever state-of-the-art Nursing university in Pakistan. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif laid the foundation of the university;

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bahrain–Japan relations</span> Bilateral relations

Historic and current bilateral relationship exist between Bahrain and Japan. Diplomatic relations were first established in 1972, and since then they have had increasing economic, cultural, and military cooperation, with Japan becoming one of the major trading partners of Bahrain. Several high-level official visits have taken place, including by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Japan in 2012, Crown Prince Salman in 2013, and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Bahrain in 2013, with the governments of both countries expressing their intent to continue to increase their bilateral relations.

Bahrain–Germany relations have existed since 1972 and are described as "good" by the German Foreign Office. Germany enjoys a good reputation in the country of Bahrain, and the German economy in particular is highly regarded.
