Cumbria is a ceremonial county in North West England, bordering Scotland. It came into existence in 1974 after the passage of the Local Government Act 1972. In April 2023, it was abolished as an administrative area, with all administrative functions taken over by Westmorland and Furness and Cumberland. Cumbria's largest settlement is Carlisle which is the main economic hub of Cumbria. As well as Carlisle other notable settlements include Barrow-in-Furness, Kendal, Whitehaven, Workington, Cockermouth, Alston, Keswick, Dalton-in-Furness, Ulverston, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Kirkby Stephen and Penrith.
Ulverston is a market town and civil parish in Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria, England. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 11,524, increasing at the 2011 census to 11,678. Historically in Lancashire, it lies a few miles south of the Lake District National Park and just north-west of Morecambe Bay, within the Furness Peninsula. Lancaster is 39 miles (63 km) to the east, Barrow-in-Furness 10 miles (16 km) to the south-west and Kendal 25 miles (40 km) to the north-east.
Millom is a town and civil parish on the north shore of the estuary of the River Duddon in southernmost Cumberland, Cumbria, England. It is situated just outside the Lake District National Park, about six miles north of Barrow-in-Furness and 26 mi (42 km) south of Whitehaven.
Barrow-in-Furness is a port town in Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria, England. Historically in Lancashire, it was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1867 and merged with Dalton-in-Furness Urban District in 1974 to form the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness. In 2023 the borough merged with Eden and South Lakeland districts to form a new unitary authority; Westmorland and Furness. At the tip of the Furness peninsula, close to the Lake District, it is bordered by Morecambe Bay, the Duddon Estuary and the Irish Sea. In 2011, Barrow's population was 56,745, making it the second largest urban area in Cumbria after Carlisle, and the largest in Westmorland and Furness. Natives of Barrow, as well as the local dialect, are known as Barrovian.
The British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) is an association for social and recreational rugby league. It works jointly with the Rugby Football League through the RFL Community Board.
Dalton-in-Furness is a town and former civil parish in Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria, England. In 2011 it had a population of 7,827. It is located 4.4 miles (7 km) north east of Barrow-in-Furness.
Kirkby-in-Furness, generally referred to simply as Kirkby locally, is a village that is the major part of the parish of Kirkby Ireleth in the Furness district of Cumbria, England. Historically part of Lancashire, it is close to the Lake District National Park. It is about 3 miles (5 km) south of Broughton in Furness, 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Ulverston and 9 miles (14 km) north of Barrow-in-Furness. It is one of the largest villages on the peninsula's north-western coast, looking out over the Duddon estuary. To its east is the SSSI of Kirkby Moor and to its west is the SSSI of Duddon Estuary. The 2021 census showed Kirkby to have a population of 580.
The West Lancashire Football League is a football competition based in northern England, consisting of five divisions – three for first teams, and two for reserve teams. The league is currently sponsored by Lancaster-based radio station The Bay. The top division, the Premier Division, sits at step seven of the National League System and is a feeder league for the North West Counties Football League, although promotion and relegation is based upon application to the National League System Panel.

Askam and Ireleth is a civil parish close to Barrow-in-Furness in Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria, England. Historically part of Lancashire, it originally consisted of two separate coastal villages with different origins and histories which, in recent times, have merged to become one continuous settlement. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 3,632, reducing at the 2011 census to 3,462.
The BARLA Cumbria Cup is an amateur rugby league knock-out competition for clubs in the county of Cumbria. The cup is administered by the Cumberland Amateur Rugby League Association, a branch of the British Amateur Rugby League Association, and has been played for since 1982.

It is a successor league for the Rugby League Conference also comprising clubs from the North West Counties League following most of the latter switching to summer to follow the National Conference League.

The Cumbria Men's League is a rugby league competition founded in 2013 by the top clubs from the Cumberland League and some clubs in the Barrow-in-Furness area that switched from the North West Men's League. It started as a joint venture between the Rugby Football League and the British Amateur Rugby League Association It sits directly below the National Conference League in the pyramid and above the Cumberland League and Barrow & District League.
