Biljana Đorđević (Serbian Cyrillic : Биљана Ђорђевић; born 1984) is a Serbian politician and a docent at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Belgrade. A member of the Green–Left Front (ZLF), she has served as a member of the National Assembly of Serbia since 1 August 2022.

Early life

Biljana Đorđević was born in 1984 in Vranje, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia. She completed her primary education in Bujanovac and attended a gymnasium in her home town.^[1] Đorđević finished her studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Belgrade and completed her masters' studies at the University of Oxford.^[1]

Career

Đorđević is a docent at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Belgrade.^[2] She is also a member of the Presidency of the Association for Political Science of Serbia and the Serbian Association for Legal and Social Philosophy.^[1] She previously worked as an associate researcher at the Edinburgh Law School from 2012 to 2013.^[3]

She was elected as a member of the Minor Council of the Do not let Belgrade drown (NDB) movement in 2020.^[4] Đorđević was the candidate of the We Must coalition, which NDB is part of, in the 2022 parliamentary election.^[5] She was elected to the National Assembly, and currently serves as the deputy president of the NDB parliamentary group since 1 August 2022.^[6] NDB was transformed into the Green–Left Front on 14 July 2023.^[7]

Đorđević supports decentralisation and wants to "radically turn things around". She also wants to reduce social inequality.^[8]

Personal life

Đorđević has resided in Belgrade since finishing her studies at the University of Belgrade.^[5]

Siniša Mali plagiarism scandal refers to the political scandal in Serbia which led to the 2019 annulment of the 2013 doctoral dissertation of economist and politician Siniša Mali by the Belgrade University. After the first plagiarism claims in 2014, the process spanned for over five years, during which Mali progressed from the position of mayor of Belgrade to the office of the finance minister in the Serbian government, and became a member of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). In time, question of Mali's doctorate crossed the lines of academia becoming a political affair and a much wider social issue in Serbia due to the inactivity of the state and educational institutions regarding this matter, which in turn provoked public protests, university's blockade by the students and a fierce public and political division.

Dobrica Veselinović is a Serbian activist and politician. He is a member of the Green–Left Front and was previously affiliated with the left-wing Do not let Belgrade drown association.

We Must was an opposition electoral alliance that participated in the 2022 Serbian general elections.

Biljana Stojković is a Serbian biologist, activist, and professor at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Biology. Stojković was the candidate of the We Must coalition in the 2022 presidential election.

Provincial elections were held in Vojvodina on 17 December 2023 to elect members of the Assembly of Vojvodina. The Assembly dissolved itself on 16 November 2023, setting the election date for 17 December. It was concurrently held with the parliamentary and local elections in 65 cities and municipalities in Serbia.

Ivana Rašić Trmčić, better known as Sajsi MC, is a Serbian rapper, singer and songwriter. Recognized as one of the most prominent female rappers in Serbia, her lyrics explore sexuality, feminism and other socio-political subjects.

Radomir Lazović is a Serbian activist, politician, and designer. A co-president of the Green–Left Front (ZLF), he has served as a member of the National Assembly of Serbia since 2022.

Robert Kozma is a Serbian politician and activist who has been a member of the National Assembly since 1 August 2022. He is a member of the Green–Left Front (ZLF).

Local elections were held in Belgrade on 17 December 2023 to elect members of the City Assembly. Initially scheduled to be held by 2026, the election was called earlier after Aleksandar Vučić, the president of Serbia, announced in September 2023 that the election could be held in December 2023. In response to the announcement, Aleksandar Šapić, the mayor of Belgrade, tendered his resignation. Šapić ceased being mayor on 30 October 2023, when the Temporary Council of Belgrade was established. The elections were held concurrently with the parliamentary, Vojvodina provincial, and the local elections in 64 cities and municipalities in Serbia.

Green–Left Front is a green political party in Serbia. It is the successor of Do not let Belgrade drown association and four local citizens' groups. Radomir Lazović and Biljana Đorđević serve as the co-presidents of ZLF.
