Canada's Senior Women's National Softball Team represents Canada in international softball. They are overseen by Softball Canada, the governing body of softball in Canada.

Contents

They are one of the top-ranked softball teams in the world. The team represents Canada at international competitions such as the ISF World Championship, World Cup and Pan-Am Games events and competed at the Summer Olympic Games since the sport was inaugurated at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. The team won bronze at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo; this was the fifth Olympics to include softball (no softball in 2012 nor 2016). The team won gold at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas and the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto. The team won bronze at the 2018 World Championship.

The Canadian roster of 15 athletes was named on 12 May 2021, including four members of the last team that competed at the Olympics (Lawrie, Rafter, Regula and Sailing). [2] [3]

The United States women's national softball team is the national softball team of the United States. It is governed by USA Softball and takes part in international softball competitions. The US team has been dominant in international play, taking the gold medal in three straight Olympics and seven straight world championships. They won the silver medal at the 2008 and 2020 Summer Olympics. In the 2004 Olympics the team held its opponents to one run scored in 7 games. The lone run came in a 5–1 victory over the Australian team. It was the first run scored by an opponent against the US softball team in 9 games.

The Women's Softball World Cup is a fastpitch softball tournament for women's national teams held historically every four years, now every two years, by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). The tournament, originally known as the ISF Women's World Championship, was sanctioned by the International Softball Federation (ISF) until that body's 2013 merger with the International Baseball Federation to create the WBSC. The number of teams in the tournament began at five in its inaugural event in 1965, went to a high of 28 for the 1994 edition, and now the WBSC Code legislates that the maximum number of teams that may participate is 16. There are qualifying tournaments that determine which countries will play at the World Cup.

The Australia women's national softball team, also known as the Aussie Spirit, or the Dingeroos, is the national softball team of Australia. It is governed by Softball Australia and takes part in international softball competitions. They are one of Australia's most successful women's sporting teams on the world stage, and they have achieved outstanding results over the last 3 decades. Alongside the USA team, the Aussie Spirit are the only other team to medal at all 4 Olympics that softball was included as a sport in the Olympics program. At the inaugural Women's Softball World Championship held in Melbourne, 1965. Australia claimed the first ever title, winning Gold and stamped themselves as a pioneer in the sport.

Victoria Gran Hayward is Canadian, former collegiate All-American, medal-winning Olympian, professional softball player. She played college softball for Washington from 2011–14. She most recently played for the Canadian Wild in the National Pro Fastpitch. She played in the inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited Softball league and finished in third place overall in points earned. She is an outfielder and bats and throws left-handed. She has played for the Canadian Senior Women's softball team since June 2009 and helped them win a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Elsabeth Ann "Ellie" Black is a Canadian artistic gymnast. She is a three-time Olympian, having represented her country at the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympic Games. She is the 2017 World all-around silver medalist, making her the first Canadian gymnast to win a world all-around medal, and she led the Canadian women's gymnastics team to a bronze medal in the 2022 World Championships team final, the first world team medal won by a Canadian gymnastics team. She won a silver medal on the balance beam at the 2022 World Championships. She is also the 2018 Commonwealth Games all-around champion, a two-time Pan American Games all-around champion, and a six-time Canadian national all-around champion. At the 2020 Olympic Games, Black placed fourth in the balance beam final, the highest placement in the Olympics for a female Canadian gymnast.

Eujenna "Jenna" Afrodite Caira is a Canadian, former collegiate All-American, medal-winning Olympian, professional softball pitcher for the Canadian Wild of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF). Caira was a starting pitcher for the Syracuse Orange from 2009–12 and holds the career records in wins, shutouts and innings pitched. Additionally, she is the Big East Conference career leader in strikeouts. Emma Alyce Entzminger is a Canadian softball infielder with the Canada women's national softball team. Entzminger played college softball at San Jose State University in the U.S. First named to the Canada national team in 2015, Entzminger competed with the team at the 2015 Pan American Games and later the 2018 Women's Softball World Championship. Entzminger went on to win two international medals with Canada, first silver in the softball at the 2019 Pan American Games then bronze in the 2020 Summer Olympics.
