The China Theatre Plum Blossom Award, more commonly the Plum Blossom Award, is the highest theatrical award in China. It is awarded by the China Theatre Association.
Yu opera, or Yuju opera, sometimes known as Henan bangzi, is one of China's famous national opera forms, alongside Peking opera, Yue opera, Huangmei opera and Pingju. Henan province is the origin of Yu opera. Henan's one-character abbreviation is "豫" (yù), and thus the opera style was officially named "豫剧" (Yùjù) after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The area where Yu opera is most commonly performed is in the region surrounding the Yellow River and Huai River. According to statistical figures, Yu opera was the leading opera genre in terms of the number of performers and troupes. Outside Henan, provinces such as Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Xinjiang, all have professional Yu opera troupes. There is also a troupe in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The China TV Golden Eagle Award, commonly known in China as the Golden Eagle Awards, is one of three main national award ceremonies recognising excellence in the Chinese television industry. The award is presented by the China Television Artists Association. It is considered to be one of the most prestigious television awards, alongside the Feitian Awards and Magnolia Awards. The Golden Eagle Awards are a biennial awards ceremony, held on alternate years with the Feitian Awards since 2005.

Ma Lan is a Chinese performing artist of Huangmei opera who usually plays dan (female) roles. Before her abrupt departure from the stage in 2000, Ma Lan was considered the most popular Huangmei opera performer in the country. She has won the Plum Blossom Award, the China TV Golden Eagle Award, and the Flying Apsaras Award, and performed on CCTV New Year's Gala in 1984, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1997, and 2005. She is often compared to the 1950s/1960s superstar Yan Fengying, whom she movingly portrayed in a hit 1988 TV series.
The Jiangsu Province Peking Opera performing arts group is a southern arts group, founded by the Southern Jiangsu Peking Opera Troupe and Northern Jiangsu experimental Peking Opera group. In 1953 it was renamed Jiangsu Peking Opera Troupe. It combined the Nanjing Peking Opera Troupe, Nanjing Peking Opera and Yangzhou area Peking Opera staff into Jiangsu Province Peking Opera Institute in 1960. It operated for more than 50 years and was named "National Key Peking Opera Troupe" by the Ministry of Culture in 2005.
Cao Shui, pseudonym or haoLord of Tower of Babel, is a Chinese poet, novelist, screenwriter and translator. He is one of the representative figures of Chinese Contemporary Literature. He leads the great poemism movement. In his Declaration of Great Poem, he aims to integrate sacred and secular cultures, oriental and occidental cultures, ancient and modern cultures in Chinese literature. His most notable works include the Epic of Eurasia, Secret of Heaven (trilogy), and King Peacock. His works are dedicated to rebuilding a republic in which the whole humanity can live in freedom, which he always described as Eurasia, the Top of the Tower of Babel or Kunlun Mountains. So far twenty books of Cao Shui have been published, including five poem collections, three essay collections, ten novels and one hundred episodes TV series and films. He is a member of China Writers' Association, China Film Association, and China Poetry Society. He is also the editor-in-chief of Great Poem and deputy editor-in-chief of Poetry Weekly. Currently he lives in Beijing as a professional writer and screenwriter.
Yu Shangyuan was a 20th-century playwright, Chinese drama educationist and theorist. Yu Shangyuan's hometown was in Shashi, Hubei Province, China. His whole family depended on low wages to make a living. However, He enjoyed drama since he was a little boy. Being recommended by Hu Shi and Chen Duxiu, he went to Peking University and graduated from the English department, then, he went to America for further study. As one of the founders of Chinese modern dramas, he made a considerable contribution to dramaturgical theory. His main achievements are his contribution to the development of "the Chinese drama movement" and his representative works: Syllabus of Performing Arts.

China TV Drama Flying Apsaras Awards, also known as Flying Apsaras Awards or simply Feitian Awards, is a biennial awards ceremony awarding excellent achievement in Chinese television. Named after the Gandhanra aka Flying Apsaras, the award stature shape is sourced from the ancient painting of Flying Apsaras in Mogao Caves, Dunhuang. It is the longest running television award ceremony in China.

Birthday Celebration by Five Daughters (五女拜壽) is a Chinese Yue opera play written by Gu Xidong (顾锡东) in 1982, set in the Ming dynasty before and after the fall of Yan Song. There is some similarity between the story and that of King Lear, although Gu Xidong never acknowledged any Shakespearean influence. The story emphasizes the importance of traditional Confucian values such as filial piety, which like traditional theatre had been attacked and suppressed during the Cultural Revolution (1966–1976).
