Post-Cardinals career

After the 1979 season, the Seattle Mariners purchased O'Brien's contract. [11] However, he was released shortly before the 1980 season. [5] He found work with the Richmond Braves, the AAA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves in 1980 and the beginning of the 1981 season. [6] He finished the 1981 season with the Columbus Astros, the Houston Astros' AA affiliate in the Southern League. [6]

Coaching career

O'Brien was a pitching coach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1983 and at Michigan State University from 1988 to 1991. In 1991, he skippered the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League. [12] [13] He was an assistant coach at the University of Michigan from 1991 to 1995. [14]

He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Minnesota Twins, San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Astros, Colorado Rockies and Philadelphia Phillies. The Twins selected him in the sixth round of the 2002 MLB draft, out of Butler University. Neshek made his MLB debut for the Twins in 2006, and played for them until 2010. He was selected to his first All-Star Game in 2014, and his second in 2017.

Wallace batted and threw right-handed.
