Fernando de Monroy was the 10th Captain-major of Portuguese Ceylon. Monroy was appointed in 1568 under Sebastian of Portugal, he was Captain-major until 1570. He was succeeded by Diogo de Melo Coutinho. [1]

Captain-major is the English rendering of the Portuguese Capitão-mor, or the Capitães dos Donatários, the colonial officials, placed in charge of a Captaincy, deemed not (yet) important enough to have its own colonial Governor.

Astete is a Spanish surname, from an ancient Basque - Castilian lineage. The etymology of "Astete" comes from the Basque language: "Aste" possibly a variation of "Arte" means oak, and "ete" is a suffix to nearby location. António de Noronha was the 12th Captain-major of Portuguese Ceylon. Noronha was appointed in 1572 under Sebastian of Portugal; he was Captain-major until 1575. He was succeeded by Fernando de Albuquerque. António de Noronha was also the Viceroy of Portuguese India between 3 September 1564 and September 1568. He captured Mangalore and built a fort there between 1564 and 1568.

Diogo de Melo Coutinho was the second and eleventh Captain-major of Portuguese Ceylon. Coutinho was first appointed in 1552 under John III of Portugal, he was Captain-major until 1552. His second term lasted from 1570-1572. He was succeeded by Duarte de Eça and António de Noronha respectively.

Afonso Pereira de Lacerda was the fifth captain-major of Portuguese Ceylon. Lacerda was appointed in 1555 under Sebastian of Portugal. He served as captain-major until 1559. He was succeeded by Jorge de Meneses Baroche.

Jorge de Meneses Baroche was the 6th Captain-major of Portuguese Ceylon. Baroche was appointed in 1559 under Sebastian of Portugal, he was Captain-major until 1560. He was succeeded by Baltasar Guedes de Sousa.

Pedro Homem Pereira was the 17th and last Captain-major of Portuguese Ceylon. Pereira was appointed in 1591 under Philip I of Portugal, he was Captain-major until 1594. The office of Captain-major was abolished and he was succeeded by Pedro Lopes de Sousa as Governor of Portuguese Ceylon.

2013 Navotas local elections

Local elections was held in the city of Navotas on May 13, 2013 within the Philippine general election. Re-electionist mayor-John Rey Tiangco won with a margin of almost 50% on his closest rival and the incumbent vice-mayor, Patrick Joseph Javier who was replaced by the winner of the vice-mayoral elections.
