The 1991 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 14, 1991, and ended with the championship game on April 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana. A total of 63 games were played.

Her coaching career spanned five decades, with over 680 career wins, multiple national and conference coaching awards, and a national championship. She is a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Stephanie Gaitley is the head basketball coach of the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights women's basketball. She has served as head basketball coach at Fordham University, Monmouth University, and Long Island University. During her six seasons at LIU, she posted a 95–82 record. In 2007, she guided LIU to a school record 22 wins, and the top overall seed in the NEC tournament. She was named the 2006-07 NEC coach of the year for her efforts. She led LIU to two 20+ win seasons, and the first WNIT appearance in school history.

The Rams finished with an 11-5 record in conference play and were the 3-seed going into the A-10 Tournament. The Rams emerged as conference tournament champions to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
