Guangdong is a coastal province in South China on the north shore of the South China Sea. The capital of the province is Guangzhou. With a population of 113.46 million across a total area of about 179,800 km2 (69,400 sq mi), Guangdong is the most populous province of China and the 15th-largest by area. Its economy is larger than that of any other province in the nation and the 4th largest sub-national economy in the world with a GDP size of 1.47 trillion US dollars in 2018. The Pearl River Delta Economic Zone, a Chinese megalopolis, is a core for high technology, manufacturing and foreign trade. Located in this zone are two of the four top Chinese cities and the top two Chinese prefecture-level cities by GDP; Guangzhou, the capital of the province, and Shenzhen, the first special economic zone in the country. These two are among the most populous and important cities in China, and have now become two of the world's most populous megacities.
Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city located on the west bank of Pearl River estuary on the central coast of southern Guangdong province, People's Republic of China, on the southeastern edge of Pearl River Delta. Its name literally means "pearl sea", which originates from the city's location at the mouth of the Pearl River meeting the South China Sea. Zhuhai borders Jiangmen to the west, Zhongshan to the north and Macau to the southeast, and shares maritime boundaries with Shenzhen and Hong Kong to the northeast across the estuary.
The Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region is the low-lying area surrounding the Pearl River estuary, where the Pearl River flows into the South China Sea. It is one of the most densely urbanized regions in the world, and is often considered a megacity. It is now the wealthiest region in South China and one of the wealthiest in the whole of China along with the Yangtze River Delta in East China and Jingjinji in North China. The region's economy is referred to as Pearl River Delta Economic Zone. It is also part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
The Pearl River, also known by its Chinese name Zhujiang and formerly often known as the Canton River, is an extensive river system in southern China. The name "Pearl River" is also often used as a catch-all for the watersheds of the Xi ("West"), Bei ("North"), and Dong ("East") rivers of Guangdong. These rivers are all considered tributaries of the Pearl River because they share a common delta, the Pearl River Delta. Measured from the farthest reaches of the Xi River, the 2,400-kilometer (1,500 mi)-long Pearl River system is China's third-longest river, after the Yangtze River and the Yellow River, and second largest by volume, after the Yangtze. The 453,700 km2 (175,200 sq mi) Pearl River Basin (珠江流域) drains the majority of Liangguang, as well as parts of Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan and Jiangxi in China; it also drains northern parts of Vietnam's Northeast Cao Bằng and Lạng Sơn provinces.
The Individual Visit Scheme begun on 28 July, 2003 allowing travelers from Mainland China to visit Hong Kong and Macau on an individual basis; prior to the Scheme, Mainland residents could only visit on business visas or on group tours.
The Xi River or Si-Kiang is the western tributary of the Pearl River in southern China. It is formed by the confluence of the Gui and Xun Rivers in Wuzhou, Guangxi. It then flows east through Guangdong, and enters the Pearl River Delta just east of the Lingyang Gorge in Zhaoqing. The main branch of the Xi River flows southeast through the delta entering the South China Sea at Modao Men, just west of Macau. The major cities along the Xi include Wuzhou, Zhaoqing, and Jiangmen.

The Pearl River Delta Economic Zone, is a special economic zone on the southeastern coast of China. Located in the Pearl River Delta, it consists of the Chinese cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and parts of Huizhou and Zhaoqing. Adjacent Hong Kong and Macau are not part of the economic zone.

Guangzhou–Zhuhai intercity railway or Guangzhu intercity railway is a dedicated, grade-separated regional railway linking Guangzhou South railway station in Panyu, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai Jinwan Airport in Zhuhai, via Shunde, Zhongshan and Jiangmen, in Guangdong province. It is the first line completed in the Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region intercity railway network. It is operated by China Railway Guangzhou Group.
The CRH6 Hexie is a regional/commuter high-speed train of the People's Republic of China. It is designed by CSR Qingdao Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock. and will be manufactured by CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock at its subsidiary, the CSR Guangdong Jiangmen Factory.
The Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region Intercity Railway System is a regional higher-speed rail and commuter rail network being gradually constructed in the Pearl River Delta, People's Republic of China. The project's goal is to have every major urban center in the Yuegang'ao Greater Bay Area to be within one-hour travel by rail to Guangzhou. On March 16, 2005, the State Council approved plans for a regional high-speed commuter rail network for the Jingjinji, Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta. According to the plan, by 2020, the network will have a total route mileage of about 600 kilometres (370 mi). In September 2009, the plan was expanded to 1,478 km (918 mi) of routes split up into 23 lines. In the long term vision network length will reach 1,890 km (1,170 mi) by 2030. By then the network will provide basic coverage to the Pearl River Delta region. The Suishen ICR, Guanhui ICR and Guangfozhao ICR accept Alipay, avoiding the need to purchase tickets in advance.
Dongguan–Huizhou intercity railway, also known as the Guanhui intercity railway or Guanhui City Railway, is a regional railway within Guangdong province, China. It runs between the cities of Dongguan and Huizhou in the Pearl River Delta (PRD). Part of a larger radiating intercity rail transit network, called Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region intercity railway, across the PRD region, directly connecting with the Guangzhou–Shenzhen intercity railway and the planned Foshan–Dongguan intercity railway. Route length is 103.1 kilometers, with an estimated construction budget of 25.3 billion RMB. The construction period is planned to take three and a half years. 3 renovated and 14 new stations are being built along the route. It has been built with a design speed of 200 kilometres per hour. The Xiaojinkou–Changping East section started operations on 30 March 2016.
Foshan–Dongguan intercity railway, also called the Foguan intercity railway, is an under construction regional railway within Guangdong province, China, between the cities of Foshan, via Guangzhou, to Dongguan. It forms one leg of the Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region intercity railway network and will provide connections with the Guangzhou–Shenzhen intercity railway, Dongguan–Huizhou intercity railway and local metro systems. It will connect Panyu District, Guangzhou at the major Guangzhou South interchange, tunnelling under the Pearl River through Machong and Hongmei to Dongguan West providing connections via the Dongguan Rail Transit, the Guangzhou–Shenzhen intercity railway or the Dongguan–Huizhou intercity railway. The length of the railway is 36.681 kilometres. Although this first phase of the project is named Foshan–Dongguan intercity railway, it does not pass through the city of Foshan in any way. The second section of this railway from Panyu to Foshan West has been planned, prepared and the line is under construction as the southern section of Guangzhou–Foshan circular intercity railway.

Jiangmen railway station is a passenger and freight railway station in Xinhui District, Jiangmen, Guangdong, China. It was formerly a freight-only station called Jiangmen South, but has since been renamed and expanded to allow passenger operations.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area also referred as Greater Bay Area (GBA), is a megalopolis, consisting of nine cities and two special administrative regions in South China. On 7 December 2016, the concept for the area was mentioned in the English version of China's 13th Five-Year Plan. On 13 April 2017, the heading of a piece of news released at the English.gov.cn website of the State Council adopted the name "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area". Just over two months later, on 1 July 2017, the "Framework Agreement on Deepening Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macau Cooperation in the Development of the Bay Area" was signed in Hong Kong.
