The Hofstra Pride men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, United States. Hofstra played its first game in 1936, and currently competes in the Coastal Athletic Association. [2]
The Hofstra Pride play their games at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. They have played many games at Madison Square Garden, winning the Holiday Festival in 1998, 1999, and 2006. Hofstra is 10–9 all-time at the Garden. [2]
Hofstra has also played various games at Barclays Center and the Nassau Coliseum throughout its history. [2]

Besides in-conference rivalries, Hofstra has a local rivalry with SUNY Stony Brook. Hofstra and Stony Brook are the only two NCAA Division I programs on Long Island outside of New York City (there are two universities with Division I programs in the New York City portion of Long Island: LIU in Brooklyn and St. John's in Queens). This rivalry is often referred to as the Battle of Long Island, in reference to the historical Battle of Long Island in 1776. Hofstra leads the rivalry 20–4 all time. [3]

The Albany Great Danes men's basketball team is the basketball team that represent the University at Albany, State University of New York in Albany, New York. The school's team currently competes in the America East Conference and plays its home games at SEFCU Arena. The team played in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2006, 2007, 2013, and 2014, 2015. They also made the CIT in 2016 and 2017, and are currently coached by Dwayne Killings.
The Stony Brook Seawolves are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent Stony Brook University (SBU) in Stony Brook, New York. The Seawolves play as members of the Coastal Athletic Association, which competes at the NCAA Division I level. Stony Brook had previously been a part of the America East Conference from 2001 to 2022, though has competed in CAA Football since 2013. The university's mascot is Wolfie the Seawolf, and the official colors of the Seawolves are red, grey, and blue.

The James Madison Dukes men's basketball team is the intercollegiate men's basketball program representing James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The team won 24 regular season games, a school record as a Division I program, including a nation-leading 13 road wins and received the No. 2 seed in the America East tournament. However, they lost in the quarterfinals to Binghamton.

The 2021 NCAA Division I women's basketball championship game was the final game of the 2021 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament, when the Stanford Cardinal defeated the Arizona Wildcats to become the national champions for the 2020–21 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The game was played on April 4, 2021, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
The Battle of Long Island refers to a collegiate sports rivalry between the Hofstra Pride and the Stony Brook Seawolves, who both are located on Long Island. Hofstra University is the largest private university on Long Island and is located in Hempstead, New York in Nassau County, while Stony Brook University is the largest public university in the state of New York by area and is located in Suffolk County. Since 2022, both schools have been members of the Colonial Athletic Association, with Stony Brook playing in the America East Conference from 2001 to 2022.
The Long Island Cup is a multi-team lacrosse tournament among the four Division I college lacrosse programs located on Long Island, New York. It consists of Hofstra University and Long Island University in Nassau County, Stony Brook University in Suffolk County and St. John's University in Queens County, which is part of the geographical definition of Long Island but not the cultural one. Stony Brook is the only public school involved in the tournament.
