John Gordon Armstrong QSO JP (29 March 1935 – 5 December 2018) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party.

A politician is a person active in party politics, or a person holding or seeking office in government. Politicians propose, support and create laws or policies that govern the land and, by extension, its people. Broadly speaking, a "politician" can be anyone who seeks to achieve political power in any bureaucratic institution.

1990 New Zealand general election

The 1990 New Zealand general election was held on 27 October to determine the composition of the 43rd New Zealand parliament. The governing Labour Party was defeated, ending its controversial two terms in office. The National Party, led by Jim Bolger, won a landslide victory and formed the new government.

He was one of six one-term National MPs who were elected in a swing against Labour in the 1990 election.

The New Zealand Labour Party, or simply Labour, is a centre-left political party in New Zealand. The party's platform programme describes its founding principle as democratic socialism, while observers describe Labour as social-democratic and pragmatic in practice. It is a participant of the international Progressive Alliance.

Born on 29 March 1935 [1] in Wanganui, Armstrong was educated at Wanganui Collegiate School.

In the 2006 Queen's Birthday Honours, Armstrong was appointed a Companion of the Queen's Service Order for community service. [2] He died in New Plymouth on 5 December 2018. [3]

The Birthday Honours 2006 for the Commonwealth realms were announced on 17 June 2006, to celebrate the Queen's Birthday of 2006.
