Jonkisz's musical education began at age 10 with accordion lessons at his high school. Later, he switched to drums at the Bielsko-Biała Music High School. He appeared at the "Jazz by the Odra '67" Festival at 18, winning it as a soloist. In 1971, he graduated from the Academy of Music in Katowice,receiving the Krzysztof Komeda Award.

Since 1978, he has led his groups in which many Polish jazz musicians made their professional debut. He has recorded over 70 records, some of them as a leader (the first one "Tiri Taka", was made in 1980). He played at festivals in Poland and Europe, such as: Jazz Jamboree, Molde Jazz Festival, Bergamo, Ost West - Germany, Havana Jazz, New Port in Belgrade, Temecula International Jazz Festival (USA), and many others. For 15 years, he has taught drums at the jazz department of the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. Along with teachers from Berklee College of Music and Musik Hoch Schule from Graz, he regularly teaches drums at the summer jazz workshop in Puławy, Poland.

Kazimierz is a historical district of Kraków and Kraków Old Town, Poland. From its inception in the 14th century to the early 19th century, Kazimierz was an independent city, a royal city of the Crown of the Polish Kingdom, located south of the Old Town of Kraków, separated from it by a branch of the Vistula river. For many centuries, Kazimierz was a place where ethnic Polish and Jewish cultures coexisted and intermingled. The northeastern part of the district was historically Jewish. In 1941, the Jews of Kraków were forcibly relocated by the German occupying forces into the Krakow ghetto just across the river in Podgórze, and most did not survive the war. Today, Kazimierz is one of the major tourist attractions of Krakow and an important center of cultural life of the city.
Krzysztof Trzciński, known professionally as Krzysztof Komeda, was a Polish film music composer and jazz pianist. Perhaps best known for his work in film scores, Komeda wrote the scores for Roman Polanski’s films Knife in the Water (1962), Cul-de-sac (1966), The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967), and Rosemary’s Baby (1968). Komeda's album Astigmatic (1965) is often considered one of the most important European jazz albums. British critic Stuart Nicholson describes the album as "marking a shift away from the dominant American approach with the emergence of a specific European aesthetic."

Literature, film, visual arts, theater and mass media remained focused on their active participation in public life.

Jascha Lieberman is a Polish violinist and violist. He studied with Stefan Kamasa, Giora Feidman, and Lepold Kozłowski. Lieberman was a member of the string quartet conducted by Krzysztof Penderecki.
Jan A. Byrczek was a jazz musician, jazz critic, and jazz magazine editor. He was born in Chelmek, and until the age of 41, worked as a musician in Poland, performing with artists that include the Trio Komeda Quartet Kurylewicz. Due to illness, Byrczek stopped playing. He then managed the Kraków Jazz Club and Polish Jazz Federation. He was a co-founder of the European Jazz Federation in 1956 and founded Jazz Forum in 1964. In 1977, he moved to the United States and was granted citizenship in 1987.
