History

The company was founded on 16 December 1882 by Otto Niels Kemp (1845-1905) and Severin Lauritzen (1850-1924). [3] In 1954, the privately held company was converted into a limited company. In 1982, Axel Muusfeldt, the CEO and main shareholder of the company, set up a new foundation, Axel Muusfeldts Fond, which received his shares in the company at the event of his death in 1989.

Alice O'Fredericks was a Danish actress, screenwriter, and film director. She is best known for directing the series of Far til Fire comedies and the series of family dramas based on Morten Korch novels. Having written 38 produced screenplays and directed 72 feature films, O'Fredericks was one of the most prolific directors in Danish cinema. O'Fredericks also directed the first Danish films which highlighted women's rights. The Alice Award, presented annually to the Best Female Director at the Copenhagen International Film Festival, is named in her honor.

The building complex was inaugurated in 1945 to a Functionalist design by Vilhelm Lauritzen and later expanded in 1958 and 1972. Vacated by DR when DR Byen was inaugurated in 2006, the buildings now house the Royal Danish Academy of Music as well as the Museum of Music once it reopens. The complex also contains a concert hall. The building was listed in 1994.
