Kisima is a small village in Samburu County in northwestern Kenya, southeast of the town of Maralal. It lies next to Lake Kisima in the eastern part of the Loroghi Plateau. The village is most notable as the location of Kisima Airport, which serves both Kisima and Maralal.

Samburu County is a county in the former Rift Valley Province, Kenya. It covers an area of roughly 21,000 km² (8,000 mi²) in northern Kenya where the Samburu, Turkana and many other tribes live. It stretches north from the Wuaso Ng'iro River to the south of Lake Turkana.

Maralal

Maralal is a small hillside market town in northern Kenya, lying east of the Loroghi Plateau within Samburu County. It is the administrative headquarters of the Samburu people. The town has an urban population of 16,281. The market was pioneered by Somali settlers in the 1920s. The population is dominated by the Samburu tribe, with a small percentage of Turkana and Kikuyu also resident.

Kisima Music Awards

The Kisima Music Awards is an annual awards program that recognises musical talent in East Africa. Despite being Kenyan-based the scheme awards artists from a variety of countries, predominantly Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, and incorporates a range of music genres.

The 2006 Kisima Music Awards were held in Nairobi, Kenya. They were the first of the awards to be broadcast across Africa on television, after the organisers partnered with South African satellite station Channel O, and was also the first to feature a "Social Responsibility" award category. The event encountered controversy when at least five artists refused to play at a later charity concert, citing that they had not entered a performing contract with the Kisima Music Trust. The motto for the ceremony was "Our Heritage of Splendor", and featured acts included Juma Nature, Obsessions and Nameless.

The 2007 Kisima Music Awards took place at Marula Manor, Nairobi, Kenya on 8 September 2007.

Losiolo Escarpment mountain in Kenya

The Losiolo Escarpment is an escarpment on the east side of the Great Rift Valley, Kenya. Rising 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) above the Suguta Valley floor on the east side near Maralal, the escarpment provides one of the most dramatic views of the Kenyan rift valley. The escarpment, which is also known as 'World's End', is the longest vertical drop in the Rift Valley.

Porro is one of the many valleys that seat on the floor of the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. It is located a few kilometers outside Maralal at an estimated altitude of 2,512 meters (8,241 ft), and has made this town a tourist destination for its characteristic drylands, rock massifs and view of the Great Rift Valley escarpments.
