From 1999 to 2018, a team of prospects from the United States competed against a team of prospects from other countries around the world and Puerto Rico. In 2019, the format shifted to a team of players from American League organizations against players from National League organizations. Over 800 players have been selected to participate in the All-Star Futures game since its first installment in 1999.
