Sergio Osmeña Sr. was a Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the fourth president of the Philippines from 1944 to 1946. He was vice president under Manuel L. Quezon. Upon Quezon's sudden death in 1944, Osmeña succeeded him at age 65, becoming the oldest person to assume the Philippine presidency until Rodrigo Duterte took office in 2016 at age 71. A founder of the Nacionalista Party, Osmeña was also the first Visayan to become president.

The University of San Carlos, also referred to by its acronym USC or colloquially shortened to San Carlos, is a private, Catholic, research, coeducational basic and higher education institution administered by the Philippine Southern Province of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) missionaries in Cebu City, Philippines since 1935. It offers basic education and higher education. Founded originally in 1595 as Colegio de San Ildefonso, it later became the Colegio-Seminario de San Carlos in 1783 and finally obtained university charter in 1948.

Sergio "Serge" de la Rama Osmeña III, is a Filipino politician and legislator who served as a Senator of the Philippines. He is a grandson of the 4th president of the Philippines, Sergio Osmeña. In his eighteen years in the Senate, Osmeña chaired the most committees and filed the most bills in the history of the institution.

Resil Buagas Mojares is a Filipino historian and critic of Philippine literature best known as for his books on Philippine history. He is acclaimed by various writers and critics as the Visayan Titan of Letters, due to his immense contribution to Visayan literature. He was recognized in 2018 as a National Artist of the Philippines for Literature - a conferment which represents the Philippine state's highest recognition for artists.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">John Henry Osmeña</span> Filipino politician (1935–2021)

John Henry Renner Osmeña, also known as Sonny Osmeña or simply John Osmeña, was the grandson of Philippine President Sergio Osmeña. He served as a senator of the Philippines from 1971 to 1972, 1987 to 1995, and 1998 to 2004. He was the last surviving senator of the 7th Congress, the last Congress before martial law.

The Colegio de San Ildefonso was an educational institution run by the Society of Jesus in Cebu City, Philippines in the then Spanish Captaincy General of the Philippines. It was established by the Jesuits in 1595 thus making it the first European-founded educational institution in Asia. In Mexico City, the Jesuits had founded a college with the same name in 1588. The Cebu City college was established by Fr. Antonio Sedeño, Fr. Pedro Chirino, and Antonio Pereira of the Society of Jesus in August 1595. After the expulsion of the Jesuits from Spanish territories in 1767, the buildings and facilities were taken over by the Diocese of Cebu, then by the Congregation of the Mission, and later by the Society of the Divine Word.

Vicente Rama was a Filipino Visayan legislator, publisher, and writer from Cebu, Philippines. Recognized as the Father of Cebu City, he authored the bill for its cityhood which was approved into law by October 20, 1936. He also founded the leading pre-war Cebuano periodical, Bag-ong Kusog.

Vicente Ranudo was a Filipino Visayan writer, poet laureate, and Cebu provincial civil servant. He wrote for various pre-war periodicals, including the first Cebuano newspaper Ang Suga, and was considered the father of Cebuano poetry.

Amando Navarette Osório (1890–1946) was a Filipino Visayan poet, playwright, novelist, and Cebu deputy governor. His novel Daylinda, Ang Walay Palad was the first historical fiction in Cebuano literature and the third novel written in Cebuano language.

Manuel Cabahug Briones was Filipino Visayan lawyer, judge, and politician from Cebu, Philippines. Osmundo "Mundo" Genson Rama was a Filipino Visayan physician and politician from Cebu, Philippines. He served as Governor of Cebu province and Vice Governor (1968-1969).

Paulino Arandia Gullas was a Filipino Visayan lawyer, newspaper publisher, and legislator from Cebu, Philippines. He was the founder of The Freeman, Cebu's longest-running newspaper, served as member of the 7th Philippine Legislature for Cebu's 2nd district (1925–1927), Delegate to the 1934 Constitutional Convention, and member of the National Assembly during World War II.

Nicolas Gandiongco Escario was a Filipino Visayan physician, educator, and legislator from Cebu, Philippines. He served as Mayor of Cebu City, member of the Cebu provincial board, and member of the House of Representatives (1950–1957). In 1946, he founded Cebu Institute of Technology.

Vicente Sarmiento Urgello was a Filipino Visayan lawyer and legislator from Cebu, Philippines. He was a member of the House of the Representatives for Cebu's 3rd district from 1916 until 1922.

Troadio Galicano was a Filipino Visayan anti-American guerilla officer, lawyer, and legislator from Cebu, Philippines. He was promoted to the rank of General during the Philippine-American war, Senator (1925–1931) and the first Member of the House of Representatives of the Cebu's old 5th district (1907–1912).

Segundo Singson was a lawyer, judge, and politician from Cebu, Philippines. He was Judge of the Court of First Instance during the American occupation and the former Vice Governor of the province of Cebu (1899–1900).

Founder of the Visayan Institute, he introduced innovation in educational system through the establishment of working student and study-now-pay-later schemes and of satellite schools to allow students from locations outside Cebu City.
