The central bank of Bangladesh is known as Bangladesh Bank . Under the Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972, Bangladesh is established on 16 December 1971. The chief executive of the bank is described as Governor. The 12th and current Governor is Abdur Rouf Talukdar, appointed July 12, 2022.

Atiur Rahman is a Bangladeshi development economist, author, and banker. He served as the 10th Governor of Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh. He has been called "the banker of the poor" for his contributions in developing the Bangladeshi economy. Rahman is credited with instituting changes in the banking industry that greatly increased the country's foreign exchange reserves and brought automation and digitization in the banking sector. Achievements during his tenure include the creation of the National Payment Switch; introducing automated check clearing for banks using local currency cheques; starting mobile banking; establishing the Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network (BEFTN); and installing the Bangladesh Automated Clearing House (BACH). On 15 March 2016, he resigned as central bank governor after the cyber hacking and theft of US$101 million in foreign reserves from the Bangladesh Bank account held at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bangladesh Bank robbery</span> Heist via the SWIFT network from a Bangladesh Bank account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York

The Bangladesh Bank robbery, also known colloquially as the Bangladesh Bank cyber heist, was a theft that took place in February 2016. Thirty-five fraudulent instructions were issued by security hackers via the SWIFT network to illegally transfer close to US$1 billion from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York account belonging to Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh. Five of the thirty-five fraudulent instructions were successful in transferring US$101 million, with US$81 million traced to the Philippines and US$20 million to Sri Lanka. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York blocked the remaining thirty transactions, amounting to US$850 million, due to suspicions raised by a misspelled instruction. As of 2018, only around US$18 million of the US$81 million transferred to the Philippines has been recovered, and all the money transferred to Sri Lanka has since been recovered. Most of the money transferred to the Philippines went to four personal accounts, held by single individuals, and not to companies or corporations.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Fazle Kabir</span>

Fazle Kabir is a Bangladeshi bureaucrat, economist, and central banker. He served as the 11th Governor of Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh. Prior to this position, he served as the Finance Secretary to the government and chairman of the state-owned Sonali Bank. He also served as a director of another state-owned Janata Bank.

Abdur Rouf Talukder is a senior Bangladeshi government official who has served as the governor of Bangladesh Bank since July 2022. Prior to becoming governor he served as the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Finance. He previously served as a director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
