Substance is a compilation album by English alternative dance band New Order. It was released in August 1987 by Factory Records. The album compiles all of the band's singles at that point in their 12-inch versions, along with their respective B-side tracks. The then-newly released non-album single "True Faith" is also featured, along with its B-side "1963".
Forever Young is the debut album released by German synthpop group Alphaville on September 27, 1984, by Warner Music Group. It charted well, hitting the Top 20 in six European countries and reaching number 1 in Norway and Sweden. Alphaville followed up with their second album in 1986 with the release of Afternoons in Utopia.
Jane's Addiction is the eponymous live album by Jane's Addiction, released on May 15, 1987. Its basic tracks were recorded live at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on January 26, 1987, with additional overdubs and corrections recorded at The Edge Studio in Los Angeles. An audience applause dub from a Los Lobos concert was overlaid onto the final mix.
Wide Awake in America is a four-track extended play by Irish rock band U2. It was released on 20 May 1985 through Island Records. It combines two live performances of songs from the group's 1984 album The Unforgettable Fire with two B-sides from the era, which had previously been available only in the United Kingdom. Wide Awake in America was originally released only in North America and Japan but it charted in the UK as an import. It was re-released internationally in 1990.
Who Cares a Lot? is the first compilation album from Faith No More, released on November 24, 1998. The album is a greatest hits retrospective that spans most of the band's career, including songs from all of the band's studio albums released under Slash Records.
Bring 'Em In is the debut album of the Swedish band Mando Diao, released 2002 in Sweden. In 2003 the album was released as both a CD and an LP internationally, and was well received by critics.
Kettle Whistle is a compilation album by alternative rock band Jane's Addiction, released November 4, 1997 on Warner Bros. Issued to coincide with the 1997 "Relapse" tour, the album – originally titled It's My Party – includes new, alternate, unreleased and live tracks.
"Breaking Glass" is a song by the English singer/songwriter David Bowie. It was co-written by Bowie, bassist George Murray and drummer Dennis Davis in September 1976. Originally a track on Bowie's 1977 album Low, a reworked version of the song was a regular on the Isolar II Tour. A live version from that tour was used as the lead track on a 7" EP to promote his second live album, Stage in 1978. The EP reached number 54 on the UK Singles Chart in December 1978.
My Lives is a box set compilation of demos, outtakes, B-sides, soundtrack cuts, live recordings and album cuts by American singer/songwriter Billy Joel. It was released on November 22, 2005. The album name is derivative of the Billy Joel song "My Life". The liner notes were written by longtime Rolling Stone magazine contributor Anthony DeCurtis.
Their Greatest Hits: The Record is the career retrospective greatest hits album by the Bee Gees, released on UTV Records and Polydor in November 2001 as HDCD. The album includes 40 tracks spanning over 35 years of music. Four of the songs were new recordings of classic Gibb compositions originally recorded by other artists, including "Emotion", "Heartbreaker", "Islands in the Stream", and "Immortality". It also features the Barry Gibb duet with Barbra Streisand, "Guilty", which originally appeared on Streisand's 1980 album of the same name. It is currently out of print and has been supplanted by another compilation, The Ultimate Bee Gees.
Up from the Catacombs – The Best of Jane's Addiction is a best of compilation album by Jane's Addiction, released September 19, 2006, on Rhino. The album contains previously released material from each of Jane's Addiction's albums; from their eponymous live debut to Strays.
Challengers is the fourth studio album by Canadian indie rock band The New Pornographers, released on August 21, 2007. The track listing for the album was revealed June 1, 2007. A box set containing three blank CD-Rs, named "Executive Edition", was released August 7, 2007, two weeks before the album, with the promise of future multimedia to be downloaded at the band's website for fans to compile and burn their own CDs. The first disc included B-sides, demos and alternate versions; the second, titled "Live from the Future", featured live performances of songs related to the album; the third disc includes videos, photos and album artwork. The bonus material was available for download with the pre-orders of Challengers. The song "My Rights Versus Yours" is currently available for download on Matador Records website. "Failsafe" is an A.C. Newman song first recorded commercially by the Canadian indie pop band The Choir Practice, and appeared on their debut album several months before the release of Challengers.
B Sides and C Sides is a compilation album by the American punk rock band Rancid. It was first released online on December 11, 2007, followed by a standard release on January 15, 2008. It contains a number of B-sides and rare songs as well as compilation or soundtrack appearances plus 4 previously unreleased songs. The set spans from 1992 to 2004, therefore it doesn't include any songs recorded with current drummer Branden Steineckert.
A Cabinet of Curiosities is a compilation box set by alternative rock band Jane's Addiction, released on April 21, 2009, on Rhino Records. The collection includes three discs of demos, rehearsals, remixes, covers, and live recordings from the group's initial lifespan of 1986–1991, and one DVD featuring the movie Soul Kiss, the band's music videos, and concert footage. Vocalist Perry Farrell stated that "it's a really nice, fetishy object."
Monuments and Melodies is the first greatest hits compilation album by American rock band Incubus released on June 16, 2009 through Epic Records. It is released as a double-disc set, the first disc features 13 previously released singles from the albums Make Yourself, Morning View, A Crow Left of the Murder..., and Light Grenades, along with two new Brendan O'Brien-produced tracks, "Black Heart Inertia" and "Midnight Swim".
Dizzcography is a box set released in 2010, containing all previously released material by the Danish rock band Dizzy Mizz Lizzy. The name is a portmanteau of "Dizzy" and "discography". The CD version is collected in a black printed cardboard box as four Digipak CDs and a 40-page booklet. The box set was also released in a limited press on 8 double-sided vinyl records. Stop Us If You've Heard This One Before is a compilation album by Barenaked Ladies which includes rare recordings dating between 1992 and 2003. The album was originally planned as a companion to or even as part of a deluxe version of Hits from Yesterday & the Day Before ; however, the release was pushed back to May 8, 2012, making it a standalone release. The twelve-track album contains ten never-before-released tracks, as well as two previously released rarities.
Alpha Mike Foxtrot: Rare Tracks 1994 - 2014 is a compilation album released in November 2014 by the indie rock band Wilco. The album is a 4 disc collection of demos, live recordings, and b-sides that date between 1994 and 2014. Among its contents is the band's earliest released recording, a duet with Syd Straw of the Ernest Tubb song "The T.B. is Whipping Me", which had been recorded for the 1994 compilation Red Hot + Country.
