The Ministry of Energy, Science & Technology, and Public Utilities (Belize) was founded in 2012. The Ministry is currently divided into the Department of Geology and Petroleum, the Energy Unit and the Science and Technology Unit. The Ministry is represented by Senator Joy Grant and CEO Dr Colin Young, and has an office in Belmopan.

Geology and Petroleum Department

The Geology and Petroleum Department was established in 1984 as part of the Ministry of Natural Resources. In 2012, the department moved to the new Ministry of Energy, Science & Technology and Public Utilities. [1] The department is responsible for governance of the petroleum industry in Belize. The department's mission statement is to "To accelerate the development of Belize’s petroleum resources through the creation of a vibrant petroleum industry, with the assistance of international investors, cognizant of environmental costs, thereby improving the welfare of Belizeans into the 21st century." [1]

Energy Unit

The Energy Unit was established in 2012 and has responsibility for governance of the energy sector in Belize. The Unit's mission statement is to "To plan, promote and effectively manage the production, delivery and use of energy through Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, and Cleaner Production interventions for the sustainable development of Belize." [2] Key activities performed by the Energy Unit include data collection for the purpose of planning Belize's future energy supplies and calculating greenhouse gas emissions, public awareness on topics such as energy efficiency, as well as regulation and market reforms that promote a sustainable future for Belize.

Science and Technology Unit

The Science and Technology Unit is responsible for the promotion of science and technology in Belize. The Unit plays a key role in Belize's efforts to achieve Target 8.f in the millennium development goals. The Unit conducts a number of activities that promote engagement with Science and Technology in Belize, including through the ICT roadshow. [3]

National Energy Technology Laboratory

The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is a U.S. national laboratory under the Department of Energy Office of Fossil Energy. NETL focuses on applied research for the clean production and use of domestic energy resources. NETL performs research and development on the supply, efficiency, and environmental constraints of producing and using fossil energy resources, while maintaining their affordability.

The e-Government Unit (eGU) was a unit of the Cabinet Office of the government of the United Kingdom responsible for helping various government departments use information technology to increase efficiency and improve electronic access to government services. It was therefore deeply involved in issues of e-Government.

The National Energy Education Development Project is dedicated to promoting an energy conscious and educated society by creating effective networks of students, educators, business, government and community leaders to design and deliver objective, multi-sided energy education programs. The NEED Project's educator network includes over 65,000 classrooms nationwide who use NEED's annually up-dated curriculum materials.

Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas

The Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas is a public university in Moscow, Russia. The university was founded on 17 April 1930 and is named after the geologist Ivan Gubkin. The university is affectionally known as Kerosinka, meaning "kerosene stove".

The Environmental and Energy Study Institute(EESI) is an independent, bi-partisan 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that aims to promote environmentally sustainable societies. Based out of Washington, DC, EESI seeks to be a catalyst moving society away from environmentally damaging fossil fuels and toward a clean energy future. The organization was established in 1984 by a bipartisan and bicameral group of members of the United States Congress who were concerned with global environmental and energy problems.

The energy policy of Malaysia is determined by the Malaysian Government, which address issues of energy production, distribution, and consumption. The Department of Electricity and Gas Supply acts as the regulator while other players in the energy sector include energy supply and service companies, research and development institutions and consumers. Government-linked companies Petronas and Tenaga Nasional Berhad are major players in Malaysia's energy sector.

IFP School

The IFP School is a graduate engineering school located in Rueil-Malmaison, France. Founded in 1954, IFP School is part of the IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN), a French public-sector research and training center. The school graduates approximately 600 students per year in 20 graduate programs, employing 40 regular professors and 350 instructors from industry.

A Ministry of Energy or Department of Energy is a government department in some countries that typically oversees the production of fuel and electricity; in the United States, however, it manages nuclear weapons development and conducts energy-related research and development. The person in charge of such a department is usually known as a Minister of Energy or Minister for Energy.

Energy in Belize

Energy in Belize is based on four main sources: imported fossil fuels, biomass, hydro, and imported electricity.

Alberta Energy Regulator is an agency that regulates Albertas energy resources.

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is an Alberta corporation, with its main office in Calgary, Alberta. The Alberta Energy Regulator's mandate under the Responsible Energy Development Act, passed on 10 December 2012 and proclaimed on 17 June 2013, is to provide safe, efficient, orderly, and environmentally responsible development of energy resources in the province. Under the REDA, the Alberta Government established the AER in December 2012 to provide a one-stop shop for regulatory approvals after industry complained about the delays and costs of red tape. The legislation combined duties of the Energy Resources Conservation Board with responsibilities of Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development to create a single entity to administer the Public Lands Act, the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and the Water Act. The AER operates at arm's length from the Government of Alberta, under an appointed board of directors headed by Chair Gerry Protti, a former president of the oil industry lobby Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. On 17 June 2013, all regulatory functions previously carried out by the Energy Resources Conservation Board were taken over by the Alberta Energy Regulator.

Audrey Joy Grant, is the current governor of the Central Bank of Belize. She was a Belizean Senator and the head of the Ministry of Energy, Science & Technology, and Public Utilities. After beginning her career in economic development projects, she became an environmental conservationist and developed numerous projects throughout the Caribbean region to protect forests and marine life.

Mukuba University is a public university in Garneton (Itimpi), Kitwe, Zambia. The Mukuba University, formerly Copperbelt Secondary Teachers College (COSETCO), was established in 1974 by the Ministry of Education to train Teachers of Science for deployment in secondary schools around the country. Since its inception, COSETCO as an institution trained teachers of mathematics, natural sciences, and home economics.

The Belize Bureau of Standards is a government of Belize department that develops, promotes and implements standards for goods, services and processes.

Bevil Wooding

Bevil Wooding is a Trinidadian technologist and development strategist, who is the Chief Knowledge Officer at Congress WBN, a UK-registered charity, with operations in over 120 countries. He is known for his work in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the Caribbean. In 2010, he was named by ICANN as one of the Trusted Community Representatives for the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) root. Wooding advocates developing states and emerging economies to create policies, build infrastructure and leverage human resource capacity for technology-enabled development. He has been described as "a visionary who believes that the Caribbean Economy can be enhanced through ICTs and Internet development.”
