Nahr Umr Field is an oil field, located north of Basrah, Iraq. Nahr Umr Field is proven to hold 6.6 billion barrels of recoverable reserve. The oil field was discovered in 1948 by the Basrah Petroleum Company, an associate of the Iraq Petroleum Company. [1]

The Iraq Petroleum Company (IPC), known prior to 1929 as the Turkish Petroleum Company (TPC), is an oil company which, between 1925 and 1961, had a virtual monopoly on all oil exploration and production in Iraq. Today, it is jointly owned by some of the world's largest oil companies and is headquartered in London, England.

The Rumaila oil field is a super-giant oil field located in southern Iraq, approximately 20 mi (32 km) from the Kuwaiti border. Discovered in 1953 by the Basrah Petroleum Company (BPC), an associate company of the Iraq Petroleum Company (IPC), the field is estimated to contain 17 billion barrels, which accounts for 12% of Iraq's oil reserves estimated at 143.1 billion barrels. Thamir Ghadhban Iraqi politician

Thamir Abbas Ghadhban is an Iraqi civil servant and politician.
Thamir specialising in the oil industry since the early 1970s. After the war in 2003 he became Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Oil, and in mid of the following year he served as Interim Oil Minister in the interim government headed by interim prime minister Ayad Allawi. In 2005 he became a Parliament member and the head of one of the six committees, his committee was in charge of writing chapter four: Powers of the Federal Authorities in the permanent constitution Constitution of Iraq#Chapter Four: Powers of the Federal Authorities and one of three technocrats to draft Iraq's much debated oil and gas law, which is still waiting to be approved by the parliament. In late April 2006, there was strong speculation that he would again be appointed Minister of Oil, this time by the government of Nuri al-Maliki. In 2012 and 2016 he was nominated by Iraq to be secretary-general of OPEC. Up until early 2018 he served as the Chairman of the prime minister's advisory committee. In April 2016 he was awarded the Japanese Imperial Decorations the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Star and Silver Star from His Imperial Majesty Akihito of Japan, in recognition of his contribution to developing economic relations and promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Iraq. On 24 October 2018, Mr Ghadhban returned to serve as Deputy Prime Minister for Energy and Minister of Oil of Iraq, this time as part of the newly approved government of Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi.

The Iraq National Oil Company (INOC) was founded in 1966 by the Iraqi government. It was empowered to operate all aspects of the oil industry in Iraq except for refining which was already being run by the Oil Refineries Administration (1952) and local distribution which was also already under government control.

Kirkuk Field is an oilfield near Kirkuk de facto Kurdistan, de jure Iraq. It was discovered by the Turkish Petroleum Company at Baba Gurgur in 1927. The oilfield was brought into production by the Iraq Petroleum Company (IPC) in 1934 when 12-inch pipelines from Kirkuk to Haifa and Tripoli (Lebanon) were completed. It has ever since remained the most important part of northern Iraqi oil production with over 10 billion barrels of proven remaining oil reserves in 1998. After about seven decades of operation, Kirkuk still produces up to 1 million barrels per day, almost half of all Iraqi oil exports. Oil from the Kirkuk oilfield is now exported through the Kirkuk-Ceyhan Oil Pipeline, which runs to the Turkish port of Ceyhan on the Mediterranean Sea.

The Ministry of Oil is the Iraqi government agency responsible for Iraqi petroleum. The Minister of Oil since 2016 is Jabbar Alluaibi.

Al Shaheen Oil Field oilfield in Qatar

The Al Shaheen Oil Field is a production oil and gas field off the north east coast of Qatar in the Persian Gulf, 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Doha. The oil field lies above the North Gas Field, one of the largest gas fields in the world. The field has been operated by Maersk Oil Qatar AS of Denmark until July 2017 under a production sharing agreement with Qatar Petroleum, on behalf of the state of Qatar. As of June 2016, Qatar Petroleum and the French major Total S.A. established a new company known as "North Oil Company (Qatar)". The new company is 70% owned by Qatar Petroleum and 30% by Total. North Oil Company took over field operations on 14th July 2017.

Oil reserves in Iraq are considered the world’s fifth-largest proven oil reserves, with 140 billion barrels. The sources for this oil is primarily located in the Shiite Muslims-majority and Arab Sunni Muslims-dominated areas on the other hand are comparatively lacking.

Majnoon oil field oilfield in Iraq

Majnoon oil field is a super-giant oil field located 60 km (37 mi) from Basra, Basra Governorate in southern Iraq. Majnoon is one of the richest oil fields in the world with an estimated 38 billion barrels of oil in place. The field was named Majnoon which means crazy in Arabic in reference to excessive amount of oil in a dense area.

East Baghdad Field oilfield in Iraq

East Baghdad Field is a group of oil fields, located east of Baghdad, Iraq. East Baghdad is proven to hold 8 billion barrels of recoverable reserve and believed to have a production potential of 400,000 barrels per day (64,000 m3/d). The oil field was discovered in 1976 and is 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) wide and 64 kilometres (40 mi) long.

Az Zubair Field Oil field in Iraq

The Az Zubair Field, also known as Az-Zubayr, is an oil field located in southern Iraq, west of Basrah. It is one of the largest fields in the world and was discovered by the Basrah Petroleum Company, an associate of the Iraq Petroleum Company, in 1949. It has 4.5 billion barrels of proven reserves and currently produces 195 thousand barrels per day but in the next years, under the field's expansion programme, production is expected to reach a plateau level of 1.125 million barrels per day.

Kirkuk–Haifa oil pipeline

The Kirkuk–Haifa oil pipeline was a crude oil pipeline from the oil fields in Kirkuk, located in the former Ottoman vilayet of Mosul in northern Iraq, through Jordan to Haifa. The pipeline was operational between 1935 and 1948. Its length was about 942 kilometres (585 mi), with a diameter of 12 inches (300 mm), and it took about 10 days for crude oil to travel the full length of the line. The oil arriving in Haifa was distilled in the Haifa refineries, stored in tanks, and then put in tankers for shipment to Europe.

Petroleum industry in Iraq

Iraq was the world's 12th largest oil producer in 2009, and has the world's fifth largest proven petroleum reserves after Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Iran. Just a fraction of Iraq's known fields are in development, and Iraq may be one of the few places left where vast reserves, proven and unknown, have barely been exploited. Iraq's energy sector is heavily based upon oil, with approximately 94 percent of its energy needs met with petroleum. In addition, crude oil export revenues accounted for over two-thirds of GDP in 2009. Iraq's oil sector has suffered over the past several decades from sanctions and wars, and its oil infrastructure is in need of modernization and investment. As of June 30, 2010, the United States had allocated US$2.05 billion to the Iraqi oil and gas sector to begin this modernization, but ended its direct involvement as of the first quarter of 2008. According to reports by various U.S. government agencies, multilateral institutions and other international organizations, long-term Iraq reconstruction costs could reach US$100bn or higher.

The Ratawi oil field is an oil field located in Basra Governorate. It was discovered in 1950 and developed by Basrah Oil Company. It will begin production in 2018 and will produce oil. The total proven reserves of the Ratawi oil field are around 10 billion barrels (1.6×109 m3), and production will be centered on 250,000 barrels per day (40,000 m3/d).

The Hamrin oil field is an oil field located in Basra Governorate. It was discovered in 1950 and developed by Basrah Oil Company. It began production in 1960 and produces oil. The total proven reserves of the Hamrin oil field are around 3 billion barrels (480,000,000 m3), and production will be centered on 60,000 barrels per day (9,500 m3/d).

Zummar in Nineveh Governorate, Iraq

Zummar, also spelled Zemar or Zumar, is both the name of an Iraqi subdistrict located in north Nineveh Governorate and of its seat, the town of Zummar. The population is a mix of Arabs and Kurds, most of them work in agriculture. Wheat is the prime crop there.
In August 2014, Zummar subdistrict fell to ISIL's hands. In October 2014 Zumar was recaptured by Peshmerga in Battle of Zumar.
