Pomigliano d'Arco is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Naples in Italy, located north of Mount Vesuvius.

It is known for its industrial pole among the largest and most influential in southern Italy. In the industrial area there is, among others, the Gian Battista Vico factory of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the center Elasis (also Fiat), the Alenia Aermacchi and Avio plants, as well as having hosted the first airport of Campania in the 1960s.

History

During World War II, Pomigliano was the location of a large military airfield and base, and was attacked on several occasions by the United States Army Air Forces. The airfield was later used by the RAF and the USAAF Twelfth Air Force during the Italian campaign and known as RAF Pomigliano and Pomigliano Airfield.

Rougham Airfield

Rougham Airfield, formerly Royal Air Force Station Bury St Edmunds or more simply RAF Bury St Edmunds is a former Royal Air Force station located 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. It is not to be confused with the RAF grass strip on the western side of Bury St Edmunds known as RAF Westley, an area now part of the town itself. The airfield, now in private ownership and much reduced in size, is still active and is known as Rougham Airfield.

85th Test and Evaluation Squadron Military unit

Cervia Air Base is an air base of the Italian Air Force. It is located in northern Italy, approximately 6 km (3.2 NM) southwest of Cervia, in the province of Ravenna (Emilia-Romagna). Deversoir Air Base Active base of the Egyptian Air Force

Alfa Romeo Pomigliano dArco plant

The Alfa Romeo Pomigliano d'Arco plant, commonly called simply Stellantis Pomigliano, is an automotive assembly plant now owned by Stellantis, officially known as the Giambattista Vico Plant since 2008, in memory of the Neapolitan philosopher. The plant, originally designed and constructed in 1968 by Alfa Romeo, is located largely in the town of Pomigliano d'Arco, and partially in the town of Acerra, employing roughly 6,000.

The Alfa Romeo Avio was an Italian aviation company producing aircraft engines active since 1941. It was founded as a division of Alfa Romeo but was sold to Aeritalia in 1986 and then to Fiat in 1996. It was merged with Fiat Avio in 2003 as Avio S.p.A.
