Rugby Klub Bratislava is a Slovakian rugby club based in Nove Mesto, Bratislava, created in 2015. They currently play in the Slovak Rugby League, and participate in friendly matches with Austrian, Czech, and Hungarian teams.

Contents

The team trains on the pitch of the University of Economics in Pasienky (Športový areál Ekonomickej univerzity) on Trnavská 37, next to the Slovan football stadium. Club colors are black and green.

History

Creation

The club was established in 2015 as 'Rugby Skola v Bratislave'. The name changed to 'Rugby Klub Bratislava' a few weeks later, due to legal obligations. The club was founded by Charles Cimetiere and Christopher Bush. A citizens' association[ clarification needed ] 'Olympic RKB' related to Rugby Klub Bratislava was established in 2016. Its aim is to support the club and the club's activities.

Rugby life

The club features an adult squad and a recently developed strong rugby academy with kids of all ages. The club plays in Rugby League, Rugby Union XV and Sevens competitions. Besides that it engages in tournament and test matches in neighboring countries and hosts touring sides.

The club welcomes and accommodates both native Slovaks and expatriates with a variety of playing experiences. The club emphasises that prior rugby experience is not necessary to join.

Training

The club offers weekly training sessions to anyone interested in rugby. Men, women, children, of any age and experience, are encouraged to contact the club for further information about joining.

Currently, the club holds training sessions every Tuesday and Thursday evening. These training sessions are held primarily in English, although commands are often translated to Slovak and French too. Rugby Klub Bratislava offers a dynamic mixture of fitness, basic skills, advanced skills and team building. The aim of the training sessions is to ensure that the players are physically, mentally and strategically ready for competitive games, in a diverse and friendly community.

Competitions

The club currently plays in Slovak Rugby League, the highest rugby competition in Slovakia. It also participate in friendly Rugby League and Rugby Union matches with Austrian, Czech, and Hungarian teams

Rugby league is a minor sport in Germany. The national governing body for the sport, Rugby League Deutschland, is an associate member of the Rugby League European Federation. The country's national team are regular competitors in the European Shield, winning the competition in 2006 and 2011.

The club has won nine Slovak championships, one Czechoslovak championship (1979) and one IIHF Continental Cup (2004), making it the second most successful hockey club in Slovak history after their biggest rival HC Košice. The team plays its home games at Ondrej Nepela Arena, also known as Slovnaft Arena. The team is nicknamed Belasí, which means the "sky blues" in English.

Karlova Ves is a borough in the city of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is located in the western part of the city close to the river Danube on the slopes of the Little Carpathians mountains and it is part of the Bratislava IV administrative district. A new arena was built to host this event.

The Czechoslovakia national rugby union team was the national rugby team of Czechoslovakia, before the country was split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. They participated in qualifiers for the 1991 Rugby World Cup, but did not qualify.

Tehelné pole was a neighborhood in Bratislava, Slovakia, characterized by the presence of several sports facilities. Administratively, the neighborhood belongs to Nové Mesto borough, situated around 5 km north-east of the centre. The German and Hungarian names for this locality are Ziegelfeld and Téglamező.
