The SWAC women's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in women's basketball for the Southwestern Athletic Conference. It is a single-elimination tournament involving 8 of the 12 league schools, and seeding is based on regular-season records with head-to-head match-up as a tie-breaker. The winner has received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA women's basketball tournament since 1994.

Contents

The highest seeds face off against the corresponding lowest seeds, with the two remaining teams facing off in the Finals to determine the champion.

The tournament has been held since 1982. [1]

The Grambling State Tigers men's basketball team represents Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana. The school's team currently competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The 2014 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I teams that were not selected to participate in the 2014 NCAA tournament. The 2017–18 Alabama State Hornets basketball team represented Alabama State University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Hornets, led by 13th-year head coach Lewis Jackson, played their home games at the Dunn–Oliver Acadome in Montgomery, Alabama as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 8–23, 8–10 in SWAC play to finish in seventh place. Due to Grambling State's ineligibility, they received the No. 6 seed in the SWAC tournament where they lost to Texas Southern in the quarterfinals.

Prairie View A&M defeated Texas Southern 92–86 in the championship game to win the tournament, and received the SWAC's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA tournament. The Lady Jaguars, led by first year head coach Carlos Funchess, played their home games at the F. G. Clark Center, as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 20–13, 12–4 in SWAC play to win the SWAC regular season championship. They also won the SWAC women's tournament, earning them an automatic bid to the NCAA women's tournament. They were seeded sixteenth, and lost to No. 1 seed Mississippi State in the first round.

They finished the season 15–17, 11–7 in SWAC play to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place.
