Van Horn is a town in and the seat of Culberson County, Texas, United States. According to the 2010 census, Van Horn had a population of 2,063, down from 2,435 at the 2000 census. The 2020 census results detailed a decline in population to 1,941. Van Horn's official newspaper is The Van Horn Advocate. The town is the westernmost incorporated community in the United States that uses the Central Time Zone.
The University of Houston Law Center is the law school of the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Founded in 1947, the Law Center is one of 12 colleges of the University of Houston, a state university. Samuel Huston "Shy" Thompson Jr. was an American lawyer and college football coach. The Princeton University graduate served as head football coach at Oberlin College in 1897, at Lehigh University from 1898 to 1899, and at the University of Texas at Austin from 1900 to 1901, compiling a career college football record of 24–18–3. He was the first head coach at Texas to return for a second season. Thompson served as assistant U.S. attorney general under President Woodrow Wilson from 1913 to 1918 and on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) from 1919 to 1927. He was the chair of the FTC from December 1, 1920 to November 30, 1921, and again from December 1, 1923 to November 30, 1924.

The UTSA Roadrunners men's basketball team represents the University of Texas at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas, US. Originally competing as an NCAA independent in 1981–82, the Roadrunners moved to the Trans-America Athletic Conference in 1986–87, then moved to the Southland Conference in 1991–92, then moved to the Western Athletic Conference in 2012–2013, then moved to Conference USA in 2013–2014 where they are currently a member. UTSA plays its home games at the on-campus Convocation Center, and is coached by former NBA player Steve Henson.
The Victoria Advocate is a daily newspaper independently published in Victoria, Texas. It is the second-oldest paper in Texas and the oldest west of the Colorado River, dating back to May 8, 1846, following the Battle of Palo Alto during the Mexican War. The paper serves the communities of the Victoria metropolitan area, and currently runs a Sunday circulation of 27,268 issues.
Roy Dale McKay was a football player at the University of Texas and in the National Football League. He was an All-American fullback in 1942 and was the most outstanding back in the 1943 Cotton Bowl. In the NFL he was twice named the best punter in the league and played on the 1944 NFL Championship Green Bay Packers.
The 1984 United States Senate election in Texas was held on November 6, 1984. Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator John Tower decided to retire, instead of seeking a fifth term. Republican Phil Gramm won the open seat.
Jeremy Mill Bernard served as the White House social secretary. Bernard was appointed to the position by President Barack Obama on February 25, 2011. He was the first male, as well as the first openly gay individual, to serve as the White House social secretary.
Stanley Stores Inc. was a family-owned regional grocery store chain in the United States, with its headquarters in Bay City, Texas. The chain operated three brands. Stanley Stores was the conventional grocery store brand. The Houston Chronicle said that the brands Price Lo Supermarkets and Foods "4" Less were "modern, warehouse-type food stores with large sales and cut-rate prices." In 1994 Greg Hassel of the Houston Chronicle said that Stanley Stores was one of several "small area outfits" operating stores in the Houston area.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament decides the conference baseball championship of the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference. The top four finishers in each conference division participate in a two-bracket, double-elimination tournament, most recently played in Birmingham, Alabama, between May 25 and May 29, 2022. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament and, since 2019, to the HBCU World Series.
The Jesse R. Dawson State Jail (JD) was a co-gender nonviolent offender state jail operated by the Corrections Corporation of America owned by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). It was located in Downtown Dallas, on the banks of the Trinity River.
Alexandra Flores was murdered by David Santiago Renteria on November 18–19, 2001 in El Paso, Texas, after being kidnapped. She was last with her parents in a local Walmart. Flores's body was found naked and slightly burnt by employees of a doctor's office, 18 mi (29 km) away from the place of abduction.
The Dallas Express was a weekly newspaper published in Dallas, Texas from 1892 to 1970. It covered news of blacks in Dallas and a large portion of Texas. It called itself "The South's Oldest and Largest Negro Newspaper." It was a member of the Associated Negro Press.
