The Tournament of Hope was a proposed South African golf tournament which was planned to start in 2013. [1] [2] It was originally scheduled to be the fifth World Golf Championship event (WGC) event, but that status was revoked in September 2012. [3]

The World Golf Championships (WGC) are a group of four annual events for professional golfers created by the International Federation of PGA Tours. All four WGC tournaments are official money events on the PGA Tour, European Tour, and the Japan Golf Tour, and officially sanctioned by the Asian Tour, Sunshine Tour, and PGA Tour of Australasia.

When first announced, the tournament was to have a purse of US$10 million, which would have been richer than any other golf event. [4] This was later reduced to $8.5 million. [1] [2]

The proposed week of the tournament was the first week of December (summer in South Africa). However that week conflicted with the Chevron World Challenge (hosted by Tiger Woods and sponsored by the United States PGA Tour) and the Nedbank Golf Challenge (sponsored by the Sunshine Tour). [2] [5]

Nedbank Golf Challenge

The Nedbank Golf Challenge, previously known as the Million Dollar Challenge, is an annual men's professional golf tournament played at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, North West province, South Africa. It was first played in 1981 and takes place towards the end of the year, in November or December.

The tournament was unable to secure sponsorship and the tournament was postponed indefinitely. [6]

The Hero World Challenge is a golf tournament hosted by Tiger Woods, which takes place each December. It features a small number of top-ranked golf pros. The tournament is a benefit for the Tiger Woods Foundation.

The Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge was an unofficial golf event held in November at the Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada. The tournament was a unique stroke play event, and, as the name suggests, pitted three teams, with three members per team, from the PGA Tour, the LPGA Tour, and the Champions Tour against each other. The 2013 purse was $1 million.

WGC-HSBC Champions golf tournament held in Shanghai, China

The WGC-HSBC Champions is a professional golf tournament, held annually in China. Inaugurated in 2005, the first seven editions were played at the Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai, then moved to the Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen for a single year in 2012. It returned to Sheshan Golf Club in 2013.

The CIMB Classic was a professional golf tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour. Played in the fall, the event debuted in 2010 and moved to the West Course of the TPC Kuala Lumpur in 2013; the first three editions were played at The Mines Resort & Golf Club in Mines Wellness City. The event will be replaced in the 2019–20 PGA Tour season by the Zozo Championship in Japan.

Brooks Koepka American professional golfer

Brooks Koepka is an American professional golfer on the PGA Tour. In October 2018, he became World Number 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking after winning the 2018 CJ Cup. He won the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018, and the PGA Championship in 2018 and 2019, becoming the first golfer in history to hold back-to-back titles in two majors simultaneously.
