Ujwang'a

Ujwang'a is a village in Ugenya Constituency, at the east of Siaya County, Kenya. It is endowed with sweet rice fields. The staple food of the village's inhabitants is maize; this is as rice is mainly sold commercially, despite the village being the largest producer of locally consumed rice in Siaya County. Ujwang'a is home to Kevin Alori, Raphael Alori, Oscar Lorna, Eric Masiga, Benerd Ongore, and Johnmark Odongo Msiko, etc. The village has one private primary school (St. Paul's Digital Junior Academy); a hospital will open soon.

Siaya County is one of the counties in the former Nyanza Province in western Kenya. Nyamninia is a village in the Gem Location, Yala division of Siaya County, Kenya. Situated approximately 30 miles from Kisumu city, Nyamninia is home to the 100 kilowatts medium wave radio transmitters set up by Voice of Kenya (VoK); now renamed Kenya Broadcastic Corporation (KBC). It was the birthplace of the legendary Gem clan chief, Odera Kang'o who started a rice plantation scheme in the area about one hundred years ago. The Gem chief was responsible for construction the numerous schools in the region before his enforced exile in 1915, to Kampala, Uganda by the British colonialists.

Sub-counties, also known as Districts, are the decentralised units through which government of Kenya provides functions and services. At national level, sub-counties take a more administrative function like security, statistical purposes, provision of government services, etc. Even though the sub-counties are divisions of counties, powers to create new national sub-counties lies with the national government. As of 2023, there are 314 sub-counties, compared to 290 constituencies. A deputy county commissioner is appointed by the state to lead each sub-county. The sub-counties are further divided into divisions, locations and sub-locations.

Local elections were held in Siaya County to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. Under the new constitution, which was passed in a 2010 referendum, the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected. They will also be the first general elections run by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) which has released the official list of candidates. In March 2013, Rasanga was announced the winner after defeating his key rival William Oduol, who came second with a small margin but showed dissatisfaction in the elections outcome and filed petition against the governor elect in the court of law. He won the case and the court ordered for a by-election in the county, which Amoth Rasanga later emerged victorious to become the first governor for Siaya County.

Cornel Rasanga Amoth is a Kenyan politician. He is a member of the Orange Democratic Movement and was elected as the first governor of Siaya County.
