Virginia's 1st House of Delegates district is one of 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. District 1 represents part of Arlington County. The seat is held by Democrat Patrick Hope. [1] Hope was first elected in 2009.
In the November 2017 election, Democrat Alicia Kallen ran against Kilgore. [2] It was the first time in a decade Kilgore had a challenger for the seat. [3] Kallen, 26, works at Norton Community Hospital. [2] However, she was unable to win the seat and Kilgore kept his position.
Due to the 2021 Redistricting, House of Delegates District 1 has been moved to Northern Virginia, encompassing part of Arlington County.

Richard Cyril "Rip" Sullivan, Jr. is an American activist serving as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from the 6th district, which encompasses parts of Arlington and Fairfax counties. Sullivan is a member of the Democratic Party.
Lacey Edward Putney was an American politician. He was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from January 1962 until January 2014, making him the longest-serving member in the history of the Virginia General Assembly and one of the longest-serving state legislators in American history. He represented a district centered around his hometown of Bedford for his entire career, and at various times represented parts of neighboring Bedford and Botetourt counties.
Robert Hendricks "Bob" Brink is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1998 to 2014, representing the 48th district in the Arlington and Fairfax County suburbs of Washington, D.C. He resigned to become deputy commissioner for aging services in the administration of Governor Terry McAuliffe.
Terry Gene Kilgore is an American attorney and politician. A Republican, he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1993, and became chair of the Commerce and Labor committee in 2008. He currently represents the 1st district in the far southwestern corner of the state, near Cumberland Gap. He graduated with a B.A. from the University of Virginia's College at Wise, previously named Clinch Valley College, and a J.D. from the College of William & Mary's School of Law.

She was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1997 as a Republican, representing the 22nd district in the Virginia Piedmont, consisting of parts of Bedford, Campbell and Franklin Counties and the city of Lynchburg. In September 2023, Byron resigned from the Virginia House after being appointed as Deputy Director for External Affairs at the Virginia Department of Workforce Development and Advancement.

He served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1996 to 2020, representing the 25th district in the Blue Ridge Mountains, including parts of Albemarle, Augusta and Rockingham Counties. From 1990–1991, the District encompassed all of Spotsylvania County, part of Caroline County, and part of the Fredericksburg City. From 1992–2001, the District encompassed part of Spotsylvania County and all of Fredericksburg City. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Riley Edward Ingram is an American politician. From 1992-2020 he served in the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 62nd district east of Richmond, made up of parts of Chesterfield, Henrico and Prince George Counties and the city of Hopewell. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Patrick Alan Hope is an American politician. Since 2010, he has served in the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 47th district in Arlington County, outside Washington, D.C. Hope is a member of the Democratic Party.
William James Howell is an American politician from the Commonwealth of Virginia. He represented Virginia's 28th House of Delegates district from 1992 until 2018 and served as Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2003 to 2018. He also serves as chairman of the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission. Presiding over the House during a period of Republican dominance in that chamber, Howell has been applauded by many in and out of his party as a pragmatic leader but is also notable for heading Virginia's controversial redistricting efforts following the 2010 census and firmly opposing efforts to expand Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Kathleen J. Murphy is an American state representative from the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates for the 34th district, encompassing McLean, Great Falls, and parts of Vienna and Loudoun County. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
