Virginia's 2nd House of Delegates district is one of 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. District 2 represents part of Arlington county. The seat is currently held by Democrat Adele McClure. [1]
The seat was previously held by Republican L. Mark Dudenhefer. [2] He announced in January 2017 he would not seek reelection. [3] Democrat Jennifer Carroll Foy won the June 2017 primary to become the Democratic candidate. [4] She initially faced Republican Laquan Austion; however he withdrew from the race in August 2017. [5] Republicans selected Michael Makee to run instead. [6] Carroll Foy won the November general election.
Carroll Foy was re-elected.
Carroll Foy resigned effective December 12, 2020, to focus on her campaign for the 2021 Virginia gubernatorial election. [7] Democrat Candi King won an election to fill the seat on January 5, 2021. [8]

Jennifer Leigh McClellan is an American politician and attorney who has served as the U.S. representative for Virginia's 4th congressional district since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, she represented the 9th district in the Virginia State Senate from 2017 to 2023 and the 71st district in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2009 to 2017. She ran in the Democratic primary for governor of Virginia in the 2021 election, losing to former governor Terry McAuliffe.
Eileen Robin Filler-Corn is an American lawyer and politician who served as the Minority Leader of the Virginia House of Delegates from January to April 2022, a position she previously held from 2019 to 2020. She previously served as the 56th Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2020 to 2022. She represented the 41st district in the Fairfax County suburbs of Washington, D.C., from 2010 to 2024. She is a member of the Democratic Party. She is also the first woman and Jewish person to serve as Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates.

In a Republican firehouse primary, Rockbridge supervisor Ronnie Campbell won the Republican nomination by one vote. Christian Worth won the Democratic nomination. Campbell won the special election December 18., and held the seat for nearly four years until his death on December 13, 2022. Ellen Campbell was elected in a 2023 special election to succeed her husband.

Jennifer Denise Carroll Foy is an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, she is a public defender by occupation. Carroll Foy was elected to represent Virginia's 2nd House of Delegates district in 2017, which covers parts of Prince William County and Stafford County in Northern Virginia. In December 2020, she resigned from the House of Delegates, in order to focus on her campaign for Governor of Virginia in 2021. She lost in the Democratic primary, placing second behind Terry McAuliffe. She was the 2023 Democratic nominee for State Senate in Virginia's 33rd Senate district, winning the race with nearly 63% of the vote.
Hala Sophia Ayala is an American politician who represented the 51st district in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2018 to 2022. She was the Democratic nominee in the 2021 Virginia lieutenant gubernatorial election, losing to Republican nominee Winsome Sears on November 2, 2021. She was also a candidate for Virginia State Senate in the 33rd District, losing the Democratic primary to Jennifer Carroll Foy on June 20, 2023.
