Volunteers for English in Sri Lanka (VESL) was established to provide children at rural Sri Lankan schools with the opportunity to gain from native English speakers. VESL's projects aim to encourage learning, advance confidence levels in spoken English and promote cultural understanding.

VESL is a charity that aims to provide unique, exciting and worthwhile volunteering opportunities for adults of all ages in rural communities across Sri Lanka. Each year VESL volunteers run a series of English summer schools for pupils and teachers in Sri Lanka, and in 2006 VESL also hopes to run a series of teacher-training workshops for specialist English teachers in the country.

Education institutions with a tradition dating back to 5 BC are largely ignored by the state.

True Volunteer Foundation is part of a UK registered charity which provides funding for charitable projects to improve the lives of children worldwide. This is achieved through a combination of fundraising events, corporate sponsorship and individual donations.

Dr. Cristopher William Wijekoon Kannangara was a Sri Lankan Lawyer and a politician. He rose up the ranks of Sri Lanka's movement for independence in the early part of the 20th century. As a lawyer he defended the detainees that were imprisoned during the Riots of 1915, many of whom were the emerging leaders of the independence movement. In 1931, he became the President of Ceylon National Congress, the forerunner to the United National Party. Later, he became the first Minister of Education in the State Council of Ceylon, and was instrumental in introducing extensive reforms to the country's education system that opened up education to children from all levels of society.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a youth organisation in Sri Lanka, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence, which operates in schools, and normally includes Army, Navy and Air Force sections. The corp is open for secondary school students on voluntary basis and its officers are government teachers and educational administrators, who serve as instructors. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades, as well as leadership training.

Swami Vipulananda, also known as Vipulananda Adigal, was a Sri Lankan Tamil Hindu social reformer, literary critic, author, poet, teacher and ascetic from the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Vipulananda was an early pioneer associated with the Indian-based Ramakrishna Mission in Sri Lanka. Along with other reformers, Vipulananda was instrumental in the revival of the Hindu religion and native traditions in Sri Lanka after a long period of dormancy and decline during the previous 500 years of colonial rule by various European powers.

Sri Lanken Private schools provide an alternative education option to families in Sri Lanka who are seeking a different approach to education than what is offered by public schools. These schools are typically funded through private means, such as tuition fees, donations, or endowments, and may offer a local or international curriculum. Vidyartha College is an all-male national school located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. The college was founded in 1942 by the Vidyartha Society, and is currently run by the Government of Sri Lanka. The college has two sections: the primary section which includes grades 1–5; and the secondary section which includes students in grades 6–13.

Tzedek is a UK-based registered charity organisation which aims to provide a Jewish response to the problem of extreme global poverty. Registered as a charity in 1993, Tzedek has a number of overseas development programmes, working closely with local NGOs to alleviate extreme poverty in Northern Ghana and Northeast & Southeast India. As well as supporting local NGOs within these regions, Tzedek aims to develop the leadership skills of young Jewish leaders within the community to provide a long-term, sustainable solution to global poverty.

Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF) is an organization and charity set up to rescue and care for captive Asian elephants in Sri Lanka. The foundation is situated on a 15-acre estate by the name of Samaragiri, which is located 10 km (6.2 mi) northwest of Kegalle, within the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. As of 2019 there are 10 elephants that either permanently or temporarily reside at the sanctuary. These elephants are taken care of by 13 local mahouts and a number of foreign volunteers.

True Volunteer Foundation (TVF) is a non-governmental organisation which aims to empower people through education. It is headquartered in London, England and was established in 2004. Though its aims to eliminate poverty are similar to many charities, it differs through its operating model, which emphasises a low cost base and works to link together the corporate sector, small charity partners and volunteers. Its core principle and trademark is Pay to Work, and its volunteering ethos is based on the vision that everyone should have a social career which is run in parallel with their paid jobs or studies.

Capokolam is a Charitable Incorporated Organization registered in the United Kingdom with the Charity Commission, operating since 2015 in the East, Central and North of Sri Lanka. The organization provides educational programs to marginalized children in all communities struggling from the aftermath of the Sri Lankan Civil War, the 2004 Asian tsunami and endemic socioeconomic issues in Sri Lanka. Part of their approach is to bring together local and international communities and volunteers, and fuse their cultural outlooks and artistry to rehabilitate children through the medium of Capoeira.

People with disabilities in Sri Lanka typically face significant stigma and discrimination. The main causes for disability in Sri Lanka are poor hygiene, lack of medical care, the prevalence of 30 years of war, the aftereffects of the 2004 tsunami, and an increase in accidents.

Kushil Gunasekera is a Sri Lankan businessman, philanthropist, result driven visionary and a former first-class cricketer. Kushil is well known for his social welfare efforts and he is a founder and chief trustee of the Foundation of Goodness - a holistic rural community development model to bridge the urban-rural divide in Sri Lanka. His work transformed the livelihoods of several thousands Sri Lankans, especially those who were adversely affected by the impact of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Kushil is dedicating his life to serve humanity and create a more compassionate society with understanding and loving kindness. Kushil Gunasekera also became the first-ever personal manager for a Sri Lankan sportsman legendary cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan for over twenty years.
