The men's singles wheelchair tennis tournament at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro was held at the Olympic Tennis Centre in the Barra Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 9 to 16 September 2016. [1]
Great Britain's Gordon Reid defeated compatriot Alfie Hewett in the final, 6–2, 6–1 to win the gold medal in men's singles wheelchair tennis at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. With the win, Reid became the singles world No. 1. In the bronze-medal match, Belgium's Joachim Gérard defeated France's Stéphane Houdet.
Japan's Shingo Kunieda was the two-time defending gold medalist, but was defeated by Gérard in the quarterfinals.

Defending gold medalist Andy Murray of Great Britain successfully defended his title, defeating Juan Martín del Potro of Argentina in the final, 7–5, 4–6, 6–2, 7–5 to win the gold medal in Men's Singles tennis at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He became the first tennis player ever, male or female, to win two Olympic singles gold medals. Murray and del Potro were only the third and fourth men to win multiple singles medals of any color. Murray's gold was Great Britain's fifth in men's singles, the most of any nation. In the bronze medal match, Japan's Kei Nishikori defeated Spain's Rafael Nadal, 6–2, 6–7(1–7), 6–3, earning Japan's first men's singles Olympic medal since 1920.

It was Puerto Rico's first Olympic gold medal, and Puig became the first unseeded female player to win the Olympic tennis gold medal. It was Germany's first medal in women's singles since 1992 and the Czech Republic's first since 1996.
Spain's Marc López and Rafael Nadal defeated Romania's Florin Mergea and Horia Tecău in the final, 6–2, 3–6, 6–4 to win the gold medal in Men's Doubles tennis at the 2016 Summer Olympics. It was Spain's first victory in men's doubles and its first medal in the event since 2000. Romania won its first men's doubles medal. Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid defeated the defending champion Joachim Gérard and his partner Tom Egberink in the final, 7–5, 6–2 to win the gentlemen's doubles wheelchair tennis title at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. It was their fourth Wimbledon title as a team. With the win, they became the first men's wheelchair players to complete a non-calendar-year Grand Slam, and it was their third step towards a Grand Slam.

Shingo Kunieda defeated Gustavo Fernández in the final, 6–2, 5–7, 7–5 to win the men's singles wheelchair tennis title at the 2022 French Open. It was his eighth French Open singles title and his 27th major singles title overall.
Shingo Kunieda defeated Alfie Hewett in the final, 4–6, 7–5, 7–6(10–5) to win the gentlemen's singles wheelchair tennis title at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. It was his first Wimbledon singles title and record-extending 28th major singles title overall. With the win, Kunieda completed both a non-calendar year Grand Slam and the career Super Slam. Hewett served for the championship four times, but was broken all four times by Kunieda.
