The Working People's Party (Romanian : Partidului Oamenilor Muncii; POM) is a centre-left political party in Moldova.
The founding congress of the party was held on 23 April 1998, when the party's program and bylaws were adopted. The Working People's Party took part in the 1999 local elections and 2001 parliamentary elections. Ion Țurcanu became the chairman of the party. [2] It used to be known as the "New National Moldovan Party" (Noul Partid Național Moldovenesc; NPNM) [3] [4] and the "Party for the Union of Moldova" (Partidul pentru Unirea Moldovei; alternatively the "Political Party for the Union of Moldova", Partidul politic pentru Unirea Moldovei, PpUM). The Working People's Party tried to participate in the 2020 Moldovan presidential election, but it did not get the necessary number of signatures to be registered. [7]
The European Social Democratic Party is a centre-left, populist social-democratic political party in Moldova. Established in 1997, the party holds pro-European views, and is an associate member of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and a full member of the Socialist International. According to its statute, the PSDE pleads that Moldova is an independent, sovereign, and democratic state, based on law, and integrated in the united family of European democracies. Reflecting former leader Marian Lupu's views, but also the strong influence of the Moldovan Orthodox Church, the party is more conservative on social issues, such as LGBT rights.
The unification of Moldova and Romania is a popular concept in the two countries that began during the Revolutions of 1989. The Romanian Revolution in 1989 and the independence of Moldova in 1991 further contributed to the development of a movement for the unification of the two Romanian-speaking countries. The question of reunification is recurrent in the public sphere of the two countries, often as a speculation, both as a goal and a danger. Though historically Romanian support for unification was high, a 2022 survey during the Russo-Ukrainian War indicated that only 11% of Romania's population supports an immediate union, while over 42% think it is not the moment.

It is a splinter of the Save Romania Union (USR) currently led by Dragoș Pîslaru and Ramona Strugariu as acting co-presidents, founded in May 2022, in opposition to USR's current leadership under Cătălin Drulă. The party is mostly associated with former technocratic Prime Minister and former USR president Dacian Cioloș, who became the party's leader.
