History

Youth Chance High School was founded in 1977 and is run and operated by the YMCA. [2] The school accepts students ages 15 to 19 years old with a focus on students who have dropped out of other schools and whom have subsequently been referred by social service agencies, family members or the students themselves. [2] The school works with a diverse student population, preparing them with the necessary academic skills to pass the GED and/or CHSPE (California High School Equivalency Exam). 97% of the student body are students of color, and all of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. [1]

Crestmoor High School

Crestmoor High School opened in San Bruno, California in September 1962 to relieve congestion at Capuchino High School and Mills High School. It was the seventh high school to be built by the San Mateo Union High School District, based in San Mateo, California. Construction began in 1960 on a graded plateau in the Crestmoor district of San Bruno and took about two years to complete. The buildings, which are similar in design to those of Aragon High School, Hillsdale High School, and Mills High School, were constructed mostly of steel and glass, featuring expansion systems to provide earthquake resistance. The school, and its similarly designed schools, have been designed in an architectural style described as "postwar techno-optimism". The school was closed in 1980.

The Bay Area School of Enterprise, also known as BASE, is a charter high school founded in 2001 in Alameda, California. It is the first youth-created charter high school in the United States. It was created by 10 youth and 2 adults working in the afterschool program HOME Project to create a school for non traditional students. BASE is a public charter school in the Alameda Unified School District.

Alta Vista High School is a continuation high school that serves the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District. Alta Vista High School has been fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and was designated a Model Continuation High School by the California State Department of Education. Their staff includes one principal, two counselor/teachers, six full-time teachers, three instructional aides, a director of coordinated services/case management, CHAC/AACI counselors, Stanford Medical School support staff, an office manager, and a technical support. Alta Vista is designed to offer a viable alternative to the traditional high school for students whose needs have not been met in the traditional high school setting. Students respond well to the personalized setting and individualized learning contract approach. Their mascot is the Aztec.

Castro Rocks are several rocks in Richmond, California protruding from the waters in San Francisco Bay between Castro Point and Red Rock Island.The rocks lie almost directly under the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge (I-580). The rocks are named after Don Víctor Castro a local rancho-era land owner.

Hoffman Marsh is a wetlands on San Francisco Bay in Richmond, California. The marsh has been protected within Eastshore State Park, and adjacent to Point Isabel Regional Shoreline. The marsh is an important nesting ground for wildfowl and stopping ground on the Pacific Flyway, as it is one of only a handful of undestroyed wetlands in the Bay Area. It borders Point Isabel Regional Shoreline and Interstate 80.

YMCA Camp Loma Mar is a coed resident summer camp serving youth from ages 7–17. It is located in Loma Mar, an unincorporated area in San Mateo County, California. It has been in operation since 1914, and has been owned by the YMCA since 1937. It is affiliated with the YMCA of the East Bay, headquartered in Oakland, California. It is open year-round, and when summer camp is not in session, Camp Loma Mar is in use as a facility for conferences and retreats, as well as a nonprofit outdoor education program.

Emery Secondary School is a high school in Emeryville, California, United States for 9th through 12th grades. It is part of the Emery Unified School District. The school has an enrollment of around 200 students. Emery Secondary School was formerly Emery High School; after the closure of Emery Middle School, it became a secondary school with the addition of the 7th and 8th grades. The school building was scheduled to close in 2012 and be replaced by a new facility, housing transitional kindergarten - 8th grades, and 9th - 12th grade sites.

Montara State Marine Reserve & Pillar Point State Marine Conservation Area

Montara State Marine Reserve (SMR) and Pillar Point State Marine Conservation Area (SMCA) are two adjoining marine protected areas that extend offshore from Montara to Pillar Point in San Mateo County on California’s north central coast. The combined area of these marine protected areas is 18.42 square miles (47.7 km2), with 11.76 square miles (30.5 km2) in the SMR and 6.66 in the SMCA. Montara SMR prohibits the take of all living marine resources. Pillar Point SMCA prohibits the take of all living marine resources, except the recreational and commercial take of pelagic finfish by trolling or seine, the commercial or recreational take of Dungeness crab by trap and the commercial or recreational take or market squid by hand-held dip net or round haul net.

MetWest High School is a public high school in Oakland, California, United States. It is especially focused on learning through internships. The Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) states that the school "has among the highest attendance rates, the highest California High School Exit Exam pass rates, and lowest suspension rates of all OUSD high schools".
