Agnes Nandutu is a Ugandan journalist, politician and Minister in charge of Karamoja. [1] In 2020 she participated in the National Resistance Movement Party primaries [2] which she lost to incumbent Woman MP Justin Khainza, [3] [4] and in the 2021 general election, running as an independent, she was elected Women's Representative for Bududa District. Early life and education

Nandutu was born in Bududa District, Uganda. She belongs to the Bantu ethnic group who are the Gisu people. Nandutu attended Bumwali primary school for her elementary education, she then joined Bbulo girls secondary and later Blucheke secondary school for her high school education. [9]

Career

In 1997, she joined Radio Uganda as a reporter. Later, she pursued a diploma in Journalism at Uganda Institute of Journalism and Media studies. She worked at Daily Monitor as a freelance reporter. Between 2002 and 2008, Nandutu worked at Impact FM as a staff reporter before she joined NTV Uganda. [10] She was a senior political reporter at NTV Uganda. Nandutu was also a moderator and a speaker for NTV citizen debate show called "The People’s Parliament." [11] [10] She served as the president of the Parliamentary Journalist's Association from 2011 to 2016. [12] She scripts and narrates the Popular satire Friday segment called Point Blank on NTV Uganda. [13] In 2011, she received a Christmas gift from The Observer for her NTV show, Point Blank. Controversies

In 2017, Nandutu was denied accreditation to cover the Ugandan parliament by the organization's communications director. [16]

In 2020, during the parliamentary campaigns, Nandutu was tasked to present her husband, something she did not do and instead asked the electorate over the radio to find her a suitor and implored them to focus on effective representation instead of marriage. The marriage issue was contentious in the public. [17] [18] Nandutu self confessed that she is a mother of seven children though she wished not to divulge more details about it while on an interview with The Observer newspaper. [9]

International Sanctions

On April 30, 2024, the UK's Foreign Office announced personal sanctions against Agnes Nandutu and another high Ugandan official under its Global Anti-Corruption sanctions regime for their involvement in significant corruption in relation to illegal appropriation of thousands of iron sheets allocated for housing of the poorest communities in the Karamoja region as part of a government-funded project, making her a subject to an asset freeze and a travel ban [19] [20] .

Anita Annet Among is a Ugandan accountant, lawyer and politician who is the Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda since 2022. She also concurrently serves as the elected member of parliament for the Bukedea District Women Constituency, the same position she held in the 10th Parliament (2016–2021). She was in FDC party before she joined the ruling NRM where she was voted as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Parliament. She is named in the torture complaint against the Ugandan government that was submitted with the International Criminal Court.

Aisha Sekindi is a Ugandan educator and legislator. As of February 2022, she serves as Uganda's Minister of State for Water and the woman representative for Kalungu district in Uganda's eleventh parliament. She replaced Hon. Ronald Kibuule who handed over the office in July 2021. She held the same position in Uganda's tenth parliament. Politically, she is affiliated to the National Resistance Movement under whose ticket she contested in the 2016 general election, achieving victory over Aisha Naluyati Waligo of the Democratic Party Uganda (DP).

Rose Lilly Akello is a Ugandan politician and social worker representing Karenga District as the district woman member of parliament in the eleventh parliament of Uganda. In the ninth and tenth parliament, she served as the district woman member of parliament representing Kaabong District. Rose opted to represent Karenga District instead of Kaabong district because Karenga was carved out of Kaabong on 1 July 2019. She became the Kaabong District Woman MP after winning a by-election in 2017 against Ms Christine Tubo Nakwang. She is affiliated to the ruling political party, NRM.

Prossy Akampurira Mbabazi is a Ugandan politician and woman member of parliament. In 2016, she was elected as a woman representative in parliament for Rubanda district, re-elected for the 2nd term in office in the 2021 Uganda General elections.

Justine Khainza also referred to as Khainza Justine is a Ugandan politician and social worker. She is the district woman representative of Bududa District in the 9th and 10th Parliament of Uganda. She is a member of the National Resistance Movement political party. In the 2021 presidential and parliamentary elections, she lost the vote to Agnes Nandutu who is the current district woman representative of Bududa District in the 11th Parliament of Uganda.

Janepher Mbabazi Kyomuhendo is a Ugandan accountant by profession who also served as the District Woman Representative for Kagadi District in the 10th parliament of Uganda. She was affiliated with the National Resistance Movement (NRM). She was also re-elected as the District Woman Representative for Kagadi District in the 11th parliament of Uganda.

Annie Logiel was a female Ugandan politician, a trained nurse, founder of Karamoja Traditional Healers Association, and district woman representative of Moroto in the 10th Parliament of Uganda under the National Resistance Movement political party. She was elected in 2016 and passed on in 2017. She died at the age of 48 at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen in Denmark where she was taken for an operation to remove a tumour on her brain. It was reported by her family that she went through the brain tumour operation but later developed complications leading to her death.

Fortunate Nantongo is a Ugandan Lawyer, politician and legislator. She represents the people of Kyotera District as woman member of parliament in the parliament of Uganda. She won the MP seat on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket. She is the Shadow minister of Gender, labor and social development in the opposition government.

Brenda Namukuta is Ugandan politician, legislator and women representative member of parliament for Kaliro District in the eleventh Parliament of Uganda. She is affiliated to the National Resistance Movement (NRM)

Margaret Annet Muhanga Mugisa is a Ugandan politician and member of parliament for North Division in Fort Portal City in the eleventh parliament of Uganda. She is affiliated to the National Resistance Movement. She also served as the Woman representative for Kabarole District in the tenth parliament of Uganda

Phiona Nyamutoro is a Ugandan politician and legislator representing the Youth in the parliament of Uganda, she is the National female youth Member of parliament in the parliament of Uganda. She is a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) on whose ticket she got to parliament. She is also the current Minister of state for Minerals in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals Development, to which she was appointed on 22 March 2024.

Shartsi Namatovu Musherure Kutesa commonly known as Shartsi Kuteesa is a Ugandan lawyer, politician and legislator. She is the Member of parliament Mawogola County North Sambabule district in the parliament of Uganda.

Brenda Nabukenya is a Ugandan politician and legislator. She represents the people of Luwero district as district woman representative for Luwero district in the parliament of Uganda. She subscribes to the National Unity Platform party on whose ticket she was voted into parliament in the 2021 Uganda general elections. National Unity platform is headed by Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi wine.

Milly Mugeni is a Ugandan politician and legislator. She is the former Woman Member of Parliament for Butaleja District in the Tenth Parliament on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
