All 14 universities in the Big Ten Conference operate business schools. Since 1992 they have organized an annual case study competition. On July 1, 2014, Rutgers University and the University of Maryland joined the Big Ten. [1]

As of 2014, it consists of 14 member institutions and 2 affiliate institutions, with 4 new member institutions scheduled to join in 2024. The conference competes in the NCAA Division I and its football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), formerly known as Division I-A, the highest level of NCAA competition in that sport.
The Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), formerly the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), is the academic consortium of the universities in the Big Ten Conference. The consortium was renamed on June 29, 2016.
The ACC–Big Ten Challenge was an in-season NCAA Division I men's college basketball series that matched up teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Big Ten Conference (B1G). ESPN was a key part of the creation of the challenge and held the broadcast rights to all the games. The Big Ten Football Championship Game is a college football game held by the Big Ten Conference each year to determine the conference's season champion. The game, held after the regular season has been completed, matches the division champions from the conference's West and East divisions. It is typically held the first Saturday of December, although in 2020 it was played on the third Saturday of December due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis has been the site of the championship game since its inception in 2011 and is scheduled to host through 2024. Since 2017, the game's official title has been the Big Ten College Football Championship Game Presented by Discover following a sponsorship deal with Discover Financial.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights men's soccer team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Rutgers University–New Brunswick in New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States. The team is a member of the Big Ten Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. Rutgers's first varsity's men's soccer team was fielded in 1938, although organized soccer has been played at the university since at least 1869. The team plays its home games at Yurcak Field in New Brunswick. The Knights are coached by Jim McElderry.
The 2010–14 Big Ten Conference realignment refers to the Big Ten Conference dealing with several proposed and actual conference expansion and reduction plans among various NCAA conferences and institutions from 2010 to 2014. U.S. sports media credited expansion plans by the Big Ten as being the trigger for a massive wave of conference realignment during this period. While no Big Ten members announced plans to join other conferences, the league announced expansion from 11 members to an ultimate total of 14 full members and one single-sport associate member, with one full member joining in 2011 and the remaining schools joining in July 2014.

The Maryland field hockey team plays its home games at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on the university campus in College Park, Maryland. The Terrapins are among the most accomplished field hockey programs in the country, and they have won a total of eight NCAA national championships and 16 conference championships. The team is currently coached by Missy Meharg.

Since the field hockey program was established in 1974, the Scarlet Knights have appeared in the NCAA tournament twice, placed runner-up in regular-season conference play three times, and finished second in a conference tournament twice. The team is currently coached by Meredith Civico.
The 2014 Big Ten Conference men's soccer tournament was the 24th postseason tournament to determine the champion of the Big Ten Conference. The defending champion was Indiana. The tournament was held from November 8–16, 2014. Maryland won the tournament.
The 2016 Maryland Terrapins football team represented the University of Maryland, College Park in the 2016 NCAA Division I FBS football season. It was the Terrapins' third season as a member of the Big Ten Conference, and a member of the East Division. Maryland played its home games at Maryland Stadium in College Park, Maryland. It was their first year under new head coach D. J. Durkin. They finished the season 6–7, 3–6 in Big Ten play to finish in fifth place in the East Division. They were invited to the Quick Lane Bowl where they were defeated by Boston College.
The 2016 Big Ten Men's Lacrosse Tournament was held May 5 to May 7 at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Maryland. The winner of the tournament received the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship. Four teams from the Big Ten conference competed in the single elimination event. The seeds were based upon the teams' regular season conference record with Penn State winning the head-to-head tie breaker over Ohio State to earn the #4 seed and final spot in the field. In the final, Maryland beat Rutgers 14–8.

They were led by second-year head coach Chris Ash. They finished the season 4–8, 3–6 in Big Ten play to finish in fifth place in the East Division.
The 2018 Big Ten Conference men's soccer tournament is the 28th edition of the tournament. It determined the Big Ten Conference's automatic berth into the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. Wisconsin enters the tournament as the defending champions. The Number 1 Seeded Indiana beat the number 3 seeded Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game 3 to 0. Indiana won its 13th Big Ten Tournament title.
The 2019 Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team represented Rutgers University during the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Scarlet Knights played their home games at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey and competed as members of the East Division of the Big Ten Conference. They were led by fourth-year head coach Chris Ash. On September 29, 2019, Ash was fired after 31⁄3 seasons as head coach. He posted an overall record of 8–32 and 3–26 in Big Ten play. Nunzio Campanile was their interim head coach for the remainder of the season. They finished the season 2–10, 0–9 in Big Ten play to finish in last place in the East Division.
