Lukia Isanga Nakadama, sometimes written Rukia Isanga Nakadama, is a Ugandan businesswoman, educator and politician. She is the current Third Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda and Minister Without Portfolio, effective 9 June 2021. [1]

Before that, she served as State Minister for Gender and Culture in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position in 2006. [2] In the cabinet reshuffle of 16 February 2009, [3] and that of 27 May 2011, [4] she retained this cabinet post. She is also the elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Mayuge District Women's Representative. She has been continuously re-elected to that position since 2001. [5]

Background and education

Isanga Nakadama was born on 2 February 1970. She was raised in a polygamous family, the 6th born of her mother's 12 children. Her father had two other wives. She attended Nabisunsa Girls School, a public middle and high school, located in Nakawa Division in northeastern Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. She obtained a Certificate in Teaching, prior to 1999, from the Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo (ITEK), which is now part of Kyambogo University, one of Uganda's eight public universities, as of February 2015. She also holds a diploma in Customs Clearing & Forwarding, which she obtained in 2000. Her diploma in Education was obtained in 2004, from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). She also holds a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from IUIU. [5]

Career

Prior to 2001, she worked as a private businesswoman and as a teacher at the Hassantourabi Education Centre in Mayuge District. She was first elected to Parliament in 2001, as the Woman Representative for her home district of Mayuge. In 2006, she was re-elected to continue representing the same constituency. She was appointed to her present cabinet post in 2006. [5]

Personal details

Rukia Nakadama is of the Islamic faith. She is married to Hajji Daudi Isanga. She belongs to the National Resistance Movement political party. [5]

She was also the elected Member of Parliament for Nakaseke County North, Nakaseke District She was the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy and also Chairperson of the Parliamentary Islamic Banking Forum. She was Sub-Saharan Africa's representative to the OIC Women Advisory Panel.

Hope Ruhindi Mwesigye is a Ugandan lawyer and politician. She is the former Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry & Fisheries from 16 February 2009 until 27 May 2011. Prior to that, she served as the State Minister for Local Government, from June 2006 until February 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, she was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Tress Bucyanayandi.

MusumbaIsaac Isanga is a Ugandan lawyer and politician. He served as the State Minister for Regional Foreign Affairs, from June 2006 until May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle on 27 May 2011, he was dropped from the cabinet and was replaced by Asuman Kiyingi. He also served as the elected Member of Parliament (MP), representing "Buzaaya County", Kamuli District, from 1996 until 2011. During the 2011 national elections, he lost to Muzaale Martin Kisule Mugabi, during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries. In 2016, he bounced back into the 10th parliament, representing Buzaaya County, in Kamuli District, on the NRM ticket. In the 2021 elections, he lost in the NRM primaries to Martin Muzaale and decided to contest as an Independent candidate and further lost to the NRM’s flag bearer, Muzaale Martin Kisule Mugabi

Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, commonly known as Jessica Alupo, is a Ugandan politician who is the ninth and current vice president of Uganda since 2021. She is also an educator, and former military officer. She previously served in the cabinet of Uganda as minister of education between 2011 and 2016. Fredrick Ruhindi, commonly known as Freddie Ruhindi or Fred Ruhindi, is a Ugandan lawyer and politician. He was the Attorney General of Uganda from 1 March 2015 to 2016. Between 2 June 2006 and 28 February 2015, he served as the State Minister for Justice & Constitutional Affairs in the Ugandan Cabinet. Rukiya Kulany Chekamondo, sometimes spelled as Rukia Kulany Chekamondo, is a Ugandan educator and politician. She was the State Minister for Privatization in the Ministry of Finance, from June 2006 until May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, she was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Aston Kajara. She also served as the elected Member of Parliament (MP), for Kapchorwa District Women's Representative, from 2006 until 2011. During the 2011 national elections, she was defeated by the current incumbent MP, Phyllis Chemutai, an Independent politician.

Christine Hellen Amongin Aporu is a Ugandan educator and politician. She served as the State Minister for Teso Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position on 27 May 2011. She represented Kumi District in Parliament as a women's representative.
