Mark Cleary (born 1954) was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford in Yorkshire from 2007 to 2013. [1] He took over in 2007 after the previous vice-chancellor, Chris Taylor, retired after 5 years in the position.

Early life

Born in Birmingham, Cleary earned his Ph.D. in geography from Jesus College, Cambridge. [1]

Career

In 1980 Cleary took a lecturing post at the University of Exeter. In 1989 he became Senior Lecturer at the University of Brunei Darussalam. After spending 1992 at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, Cleary was appointed Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of Plymouth in 1994, being promoted to Reader in Human Geography in 1995 and Professor of Human Geography four years later. In 2003 he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business at the University of Plymouth and assumed his Deputy Vice-Chancellor role there in 2004. [1]

After the Vice Chancellor of Plymouth was killed in a freak weather accident in January 2007, Cleary was appointed Acting Vice Chancellor, a post he held until he became Vice Chancellor at the University of Bradford. [2]

As Vice Chancellor of Bradford University, Cleary announced his intentions to dock the pay of academics who take part in sanctions. [3]

Nigel Thrift British human geographer and social scientist

Sir Nigel John Thrift, is a British academic and geographer. In 2018 he was appointed as Chair of the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management, a committee that gives independent scientific and technical advice on radioactive waste to the UK government and the devolved administrations. He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford and Tsinghua University and an Emeritus Professor at the University of Bristol. In 2016 and 2017 he was the executive director of the Schwarzman Scholars, an international leadership program at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Warwick from 2006 to 2016. He is a leading academic in the fields of human geography and the social sciences.

Michael James Paul Arthur FMedSci was the tenth provost and president of University College London between 2013 and January 2021. Arthur had previously been chairman of the Russell Group of UK universities and the vice-chancellor of the University of Leeds between September 2004 and 2013.

Christopher Malcolm Taylor is an engineer who was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford, holding the post from 1 October 2001 until 30 April 2007 when he retired.

Brian Cantor CBE FREng is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Materials at the University of Oxford and a Research Professor at the Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST) at Brunel University. Prior to this he was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford from 2013 to 2019. Prior to this appointment he was Vice-Chancellor at the University of York from 2002 to 2013, and prior to this he was Head of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford.
