National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is an autonomous [4] institute offering courses in fashion, technology, and management. Its head office is located in New Delhi, India. [5]

Contents

History

NIFT was established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles of the Government of India. It was declared as a statutory institute in 2006 and empowered to grant its own degree by the NIFT Act of the Indian Parliament. [6]

Along with the Ministry of Textiles, NIFT is in the process of creating a India specific size chart. [7]

The new digital disruptive pattern camouflage uniform adopted by the Indian Army in 2022 was designed in association with NIFT. [8]

Campus

NIFT currently has 18 campuses spread across the country. The first campus was established in 1986 in Haus Khaz, New Delhi. The campuses at Chennai, Kolkata, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, and Mumbai were set up in 1995, followed by the Bengaluru campus in 1997. [9] The campus in Bhopal was set up in June 2008, [9] Bhubaneshwar in 2010, [10] Jodhpur in 2010, [11] Kangra in 2009, [12] Kannur temporarily in 2008 but permanently in 2012, [13] and Patna in 2008. [14] Raebareli in 2007, Shillong in 2008, Srinagar in 2016, [15] Panchkula temporarily in 2019 but permanently in 2022. [16] Daman became the latest edition in the NIFT network established in 2022. [17]

The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are prestigious centrally funded technical institutes under the ownership of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. They are governed by the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education, and Research Act, 2007, which declared them institutions of national importance and laid down their powers, duties, and framework for governance. The Institute of Fashion Technology Kerala or IFTK-Kollam is a fashion technology institute located at Vellimon in Kollam, India. IFTK-Kollam is first and one of its kind, established by Government of Kerala with the intention of developing professionals for taking up leadership positions in fashion business in the emerging global scenario. IFTK-Kollam is inaugurated by the then honorable Chief Minister Sri.V.S Achuthanandan on 5 April 2010. The academy is in technical collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The Institute aims at providing a common platform for fashion education, research and training.

Anchampeedika is a town in the Kannur district of the North Malabar region in the Indian state of Kerala. Anchampeedika is located roughly 13.5 km from the Kannur Corporation, and it is adjacent to the Taliparamba municipality.
