Nicholas Peter Collingwood Maughan (born January 1980) is a British investor and philanthropist. Maughan is the founder of the ESG investment company Maughan Capital and the non-profit Nick Maughan Foundation, which focuses on education, the environment, and community support. He is a trustee of Tusk Trust and Dallaglio RugbyWorks. As the founder, patron, and funder, he runs various charitable projects, including BoxWise, StreetDoctors, the Charlie Miller Football Academy, and the development of social infrastructure projects in Eastern Uganda.

Early life and education

Maughan was born in January 1980 in London, England. He gained a degree in religion and theology at Manchester University, followed by a master's degree in investment management from Cass Business School (now Bayes Business School). [1]

Career

Maughan began his career in 2003 as a quantitative analyst at Tamiso & Co. in New York City. In 2020, he founded Maughan Capital, focusing on socially and environmentally impactful investments. [2] [3] His portfolio includes companies like Forests For Mines Ltd, which transforms old coal mines into forests, Climate Solutions Exchange (CSX), [4] [5] and Beobia Ltd (The Bug Factory), producing sustainable mealworm protein. [6] Maughan's investments also extend to artificial intelligence, including Sen, which streams AI-augmented Earth footage for conservation efforts, and Infogrid, an AI firm enhancing building emissions efficiency. Philanthropy

Maughan established The Nick Maughan Foundation (NMF) at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, focusing on education, environment, and civic support schemes for disenfranchised communities. [7] [1] [10]

NMF's flagship initiative, BoxWise, offers a free 10-week boxing program and mentoring support for disadvantaged young people. [11] [12] Maughan serves as a trustee for Dallaglio RugbyWorks, aiding young people outside mainstream education. [13] He funds scholarships in London for gifted children from low-income families and supports students pursuing master's degrees and PhDs. [14] [15] He funds Glasgow's Charlie Miller Football Academy [16] [17] and contributed to building the Berkshire Youth Trust's Waterside Centre in Newbury. [18] His involvement extends to the Fair Shot campaign with the Refugee Council and initiatives supporting youth at risk of crime and criminality through the Centre for Social Justice. [19] As patron Maughan has supported first-aid training for over 25,000 young people via British charity StreetDoctors. [20] He is also patron of the medical research charity Womb Transplant U.K. [21]

Maughan serves as a trustee for Tusk Trust, the African wildlife conservation charity. [22] He made a £1m donation to Tusk Trust [23] [24] and also matched all donations up to £150,000 made to Tusk through The Times' Annual Christmas Appeal, [10] sponsoring the Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award, presented by the charity’s royal patron William, Prince of Wales, [25] and funds the Tusk Conservation Symposium. Additionally, Maughan funds the construction and operation of social infrastructure projects in Eastern Uganda, [27] including the area's largest maternity hospital, the Nick Maughan Maternity Centre, the NMF Riverside School, and the NMF IT Centre. [28] He is patron of the African development charity Spotlight on Africa. [29]

Dallaglio RugbyWorks is a UK-based charity organization assisting young people aged between 12 and 18 who are experiencing school exclusion. The charity engages young people using the values of rugby and sport in general, alongside learning sessions and individualised mentoring to move them towards sustained education, employment and training (EET).
