The Indian state of Telangana has a 31% share of software export in India. [1] While the majority of the industry is concentrated in Hyderabad, other cities are also becoming significant IT destinations in the state. Hyderabad houses the largest campuses of tech giants like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple outside of the US. [2] [3] In Hyderabad, the central region of the business happens in Financial District, HITECH City , the Madhapur suburb , Kokapet SEZ (Neopolis) and Salarpuria Sattva Knowledge City. As of 2023, Hyderabad has 9,05,715 employees in the IT/ITES sector, working in more than 1500 companies. [4] [5] [6] [7] The number of startups in Telangana had increased from 400 in 2016 to 2,000 in 2022. Hyderabad added two companies in unicorn startup list in first two months of 2022. [8]

The IT exports from Hyderabad (Telangana) stood second in India at ₹2,41,275 crore (US$ 32 billion) in FY 2022-23 improving from previous year. [9] [10] IT sector exports from Telangana account for 50 per cent of total exports from state. [11] Telangana contributed to 16.77 per cent of Indian IT sector employment as of FY 2023. [12] [13]

The first IT tower in Hyderabad was established by the name Intergraph in Begumpet in 1986. [14] The initiation of this Software Industry in Hyderabad was laid foundation by N. Janardhana Reddy in 1991. HITEC City, nicknamed Cyberabad, was set up with the collaboration of Larsen & Toubro. [15] Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu developed a slogan of "Bye Bye Bangalore" and "Hello Hyderabad" during his tenure and worked hard to bring International companies like Microsoft, CA Technologies, Deloitte and went to create Vision 2020. Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu persuaded Bill gate to set up a Microsoft development center in Hyderabad, at that It was only the Microsoft development center set up by Microsoft out of USA. N. Chandrababu Naidu also worked hard to bring biotechnology companies to Hyderabad, he developed Genome Valley a high-end technology park commissioned in 1999 as S. P. Biotech Park in a public-private partnership with Bharat Biotech International, and its founder Krishna Ella, alongside private infrastructure companies such as Shapoorji Pallonji Group and ICICI Bank. N. Chandrababu Naidu during his tenure to create master plan for International airport, Outer ring road. cam D. E. Shaw & Co. was the first multinational company to open its office in Hyderabad in 1996. [16] Succeeding chief minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy continued the development.[ citation needed ]

Financial District

Financial District is an IT, real estate and architectural suburb, spread across Nanakramguda and Gachibowli, Hyderabad. WaveRock is a 2.5 million square feet (sqft) Information Technology-Special Economic Zone (IT-SEZ) in Nanakramguda spread over 12 acres (approx). [17] WaveRock SEZ houses over 25 IT companies including marquee clients such as Apple, GAP, Accenture, Development Bank of Singapore, DuPont among others, and has close to 25,000 to 30,000 employees working out of the premises. In December 2019, WaveRock was bought by the Shapoorji Pallonji Real Estate Fund (SPREF II) for Rs 1,800 crore from Tishman Speyer.

The IT industry initiative of Congress government started by N. Janardhana Reddy and continued by N. Chandrababu Naidu setting up Larsen & Toubro with policy maker APIIC built a special economic zone called Hyderabad Information Technology Engineering Consultancy City or simply HITEC City. It started the era of Software & IT in Hyderabad.[ citation needed ]

Salarpuria Sattva Knowledge City is a 7.5 million sft IT park spread across 30 acres and 5 megatowers. It is home to global behemoths like JP Morgan, [18] Intel, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, [19] [20] Novartis Healthcare, Synchrony Financial, AMD and KPMG. The Bengaluru-based builder , Salarpuria Sattva partnered with Blackstone recently to develop a 7 million sq ft IT park in Hyderabad. [21] [22]

IT Industry in Districts

In February 2016, Telangana IT Minister K. T. Rama Rao laid the foundation stone for IT incubation centre at Madikonda, Warangal. [23] In January 2020, two major companies namely Tech Mahindra and Cyient have inaugurated their campuses employing about 2,000 people. [24] Softpath, Quadrant started their operations in the Warangal IT Tower/Incubation Centre. [25]

Outside of Warangal, the state has set up similar IT Hubs in Tier-2 Towns and Cities like Khammam, Karimnagar, Adilabad,Ramagundam,Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Siddipet, and Suryapet.

It is located across the suburbs, Turakapally, Shamirpet, Medchal, Uppal, Patancheru, Jeedimetla, Gachibowli and Keesara. The Genome Valley has developed as a cluster for Biomedical research, training and manufacturing. Genome Valley is now into its Phase III, which is about 11 kms from the Phase I and II with the total area approximately 2,000-acre (8.1 km2).

The software industry in Karnataka state in India has become one of the main pillars of the state's economy. Karnataka stands first among all the states of India in terms of revenue generated from software exports, accounting for 42% share of all software exports from the country during the financial year of 2022-2023. The total exports of Karnataka was Rs 3.28 lakh crore. Karnataka's capital city Bangalore has the sobriquet of Silicon Valley of India, with total IT exports worth US$ 53 billion during the financial year 2021–22, employing 1 000 000 people directly and 3 000 000 lakh indirectly. Though most software companies are located in Bangalore, some have settled in other cities like Mysore, Mangalore, Belgaum and Hubli in Karnataka. The infrastructure required for setting up software industries in Karnataka is provided by STPI. The software industry in Karnataka includes companies dealing with various fields like telecommunication, banking software, avionics, database, automotive, networking, semiconductors, mobile handsets, internet applications and business process outsourcing. Currently, out of total IT exports, 95% is from Bengaluru alone and the other Karnataka cities contribute just 5%.

The information technology industry in India comprises information technology services and business process outsourcing. The share of the IT-BPM sector in the GDP of India is 7.4% in FY 2022. The IT and BPM industries' revenue is estimated at US$ 245 billion in FY 2023. The domestic revenue of the IT industry is estimated at $51 billion, and export revenue is estimated at $194 billion in FY 2023. The IT–BPM sector overall employs 5.4 million people as of March 2023. In December 2022, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar, in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha informed that IT units registered with state-run Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and Special Economic Zones have exported software worth Rs 11.59 lakh crore in 2021-22.

Manikonda is a commercial hub and a residential suburb in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. This suburb has boomed in recent years due to the presence of leading software company headquarters in the area as well as Lanco hills, a luxury hi-rise residential project, and an upcoming Chitrapuri Colony residential layout for Telugu cinema workers.

Shapoorji Pallonji & Company Private Limited, trading as Shapoorji Pallonji Group, is an Indian conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai. It operates in construction, real estate, textiles, engineered goods, home appliances, shipping, publications, power, and biotechnology. The company was headed by a grandson of founder Pallonji Mistry, also named Pallonji Mistry, until 2012, when he announced his retirement and the succession of his son, Shapoor Mistry.

Chennai is the third largest software exporter in India, next only to Bangalore and Hyderabad. India's largest IT park is housed at Chennai. Software exports from Tamil Nadu during 2017–2018 rose 8.6% per cent to touch 1,11,179 crore, involving a workforce of 780,000, and the city is the hub for deep tech startup companies. Many software and software services companies have development centres in Chennai, which contributed 14 percent of India's total software exports of 14,42,140 lakh during 2006–07, making it the third largest Indian city software exporter following Bangalore, Hyderabad and the city is the home for 7 top rated IT companies out of 15 in India. The Tidel Park in Chennai was billed as Asia's largest IT park when it was built. Major software companies have their offices set up here, with some of them making Chennai their largest base. Chennai is the largest hub for e-publishing, as there are 67 e-publishing units registered with the STPI and many Rs.8300-Cr data centers, digital hubs are in the process of development. A major reason for the growth of the Software industry are the top engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu, of which Chennai is a major contributor, have been a major recruiting hub for the IT firms. According to estimates, these engineering colleges and universities consistently generate about 50 per cent of the human resource requirements for the IT and ITES industry was being sourced from the state, particularly from Chennai. The total employment in the Tamil Nadu’s technology sector crossed the one million mark in the quarter ended June 2022.

The economy of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, India, is based on traditional manufacturing, the knowledge sector and tourism. Starting in the 1990s, the economic pattern of the city changed from a primary service hub to a more diversified economy, but the service industry still remains a major contributor. As of 2006, the largest employers of Hyderabad are the governments of Andhra Pradesh and India, with 113,000 and 85,000 employees, respectively.

Bayyaram Mines are iron ore mine located in Bayyaram in Mahabubabad district, Telangana, India. The mines also include Gudur Mandal in Warangal district.
