UNITECH International is a leadership development program for talented STEM students ran by a society of distinguished technical universities and multinational companies across Europe. [1]

History

UNITECH was founded in 1999 by ETH Zürich's former rector Konrad Osterwalder and Hilti's former CEO Pius Baschera. [2]

After 23 years, the UNITECH network has more than 1'500 alumni from 12 different universities, and 64 multinational corporate firms have been a part of this network. [2] As of 2023, the network comprises 8 European universities and 15 corporate partners across Europe.[ citation needed ]

Partner universities

The universities are to guarantee academic excellence and have committed themselves to build a network with UNITECH International, which goes beyond traditional programs.

Corporate partners

The participating companies are not only seen as sponsors but as active partners who take on a role in the training and further development of the students. According to UNITECH International, the partners should fulfill a demanding profile in terms of international presence and market position. [11] [12]

Former industrial partners include bioMérieux, [13] Caterpillar, [14] Covestro, [15] Lonza, [16] Nokia [17] or ZF Friedrichshafen. [18]

The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands is the merger of two interrelated disciplines, aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering. Aeronautical engineering works specifically with aircraft or aeronautics. Astronautical engineering works specifically with spacecraft or astronautics. At the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, both of the fields are directly addressed along with expansion into fields such as wind energy.

The European Society for Engineering Education an organisation for engineering education in Europe. Commonly known as SEFI, an acronym for its French name, Société Européenne pour la Formation des Ingénieurs, it is also known in German as the Europäische Gesellschaft für Ingenieur-Ausbildung. SEFI was founded in Brussels in 1973 and has more than 300 members in 40 countries. It promotes information exchange about current developments in the field of engineering education, between teachers, researchers and students in the various European countries.

The Excellence Initiative of the German Council of Science and Humanities and the German Research Foundation (DFG) aims to promote cutting-edge research and to create outstanding conditions for young scholars at universities, to deepen cooperation between disciplines and institutions, to strengthen international cooperation of research, and to enhance the international appeal of excellent German universities. It is the result of lengthy negotiations between the federal government and the German states.

Top International Managers in Engineering (T.I.M.E.), formerly Top Industrial Managers for Europe, is a network of fifty-seven engineering schools, faculties and technical universities. The oldest European network of engineering schools in its field, the T.I.M.E. Association promotes graduate student exchanges and double degrees throughout Europe and the world to enable students to achieve a broader, high-level scientific engineering education with in-depth intercultural experience.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sonnenwagen Aachen</span> German solar car development project

Sonnenwagen Aachen is a current project by students from RWTH Aachen University and FH Aachen for the development and construction of a solar car, to participate in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. The solar car race with a length of 3022 km from Darwin in Northern Territory to Adelaide in South Australia is known to be the longest solar car race in the world and has celebrated its 30th anniversary in October 2017.

RWTH International Academy gGmbH is RWTH Aachen University’s official academy for continuing education. It was founded in the year 2000 and is a subsidiary of the RWTH Aachen University.

Jan Kemper is a German manager and scientist. He has been CFO of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE since June 2017 and has also headed the group's commerce segment since February 2018.
