"28 Thousand Days" is a song by American recording artist Alicia Keys. It was written by Keys, Swizz Beatz, Mark Batson and Harold Lilly and produced by Keys, Batson and Beatz. The song was released on July 31, 2015, through RCA Records as the song of the 2015 Levi's women's jeans advertisement campaign. Keys said that the song was inspired by an article she had read, which said the average human life is 76 years, which equals to 28 thousand days. [1]

Background and reception

In 2014, Keys worked with Kendrick Lamar, Hans Zimmer and Pharrell Williams for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 song "It's On Again". [2] Keys also released "We Are Here" in September 2014 and "We Gotta Pray" in December 2014. [2] [3] In July 2015 Keys was announced as the brand ambassador and face of Levi's the autumn/winter advertisement campaign for women's jeans and "28 Thousand Days" as the campaign's song. [4] [5] The song was used in TV, cinema and online commercials for the campaign, directed by Malik Hassan Sayeed. [6] On the day of the song's release, Keys tweeted "I've been dyin' to share this new music with you! Live everyday like its your last!!" [7]

Vibe wrote of the song that it has an "infectious melody" and "boisterous production" by Swizz Beatz. [8] Rap-Up called the song an "uplifting anthem" with "blaring horns". [9] MTV News called the production "bass heavy" while Entertainment Weekly described the song as "stomping" and "soulful" and wrote that Keys is "in prime form" on the song. [1] [2]

Keys performed the song at a concert for her album Here at Village Underground in London 26 May 2016 and at Troubadour in Los Angeles on 20 July 2016. [10] [11] Keys performed the song at the Apple Music Festival in London on 20 September 2016 [12] Keys performed the song during Here in Times Square concert special on 9 October 2016 on Times Square in New York City and during an episode of Landmarks Live: Great Performances , 20 January 2017 on PBS . [13] [14] On 7 March 2017, Keys performed the on at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. [15] On 17 September 2017, Keys performed the song at Rock in Rio music festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. [16] On 1 November 2017 Keys performed the song at Baloise Session in Basel, Switzerland. [17] Keys performed the song on the 2019 Dubai International Jazz Festival. [18]

Kasseem Daoud Dean, known professionally as Swizz Beatz, is an American record producer, rapper, record executive, and businessman. Born and raised in New York City, Dean embarked on his musical career as a DJ. At the age of 18, he started to gain recognition in the hip hop industry through his family's record label, Ruff Ryders, as well as his friendship and work with East Coast rapper DMX. Working with DMX as his producer, DJ and hype man helped Dean gain prominence as a high-profile personality in hip hop.

Mashonda Karima Tifrere Dean, is an American singer/songwriter from Boston, Massachusetts. Tifrere Dean appeared on several songs from hip hop artists in the 2000s. In 2004, she married record producer Swizz Beatz, and was once signed to his label Full Surface, under the aegis of J Records. Tifrere Dean released her debut studio album January Joy in 2005. In 2011, Tifrere Dean was a part of the first season of VH1's reality show Love & Hip Hop: New York.

Mark Batson is an American producer, musician and songwriter. He has worked on albums by artists including Alicia Keys, Dave Matthews Band, LeAnn Rimes, Anthony Hamilton, Eminem, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Maroon 5, Skylar Grey, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Seal, Nas, and Sting among others. In 2000, Keys signed a recording contract with J Records and released her debut single "Fallin'", taken from her first studio album Songs in A minor (2001). The plot of its music video had Keys traveling to a prison to visit her incarcerated boyfriend and was continued in the video for her next single, "A Woman's Worth;" both videos marked Keys' first collaboration with director Chris Robinson, who would become a regular collaborator later. In 2004, another regular, American director Diane Martel, directed the accompanying music video for the second single from the singer's second album The Diary of Alicia Keys, "If I Ain't Got You", which featured rapper Method Man as Keys' love interest.
