Abdul Haq is a Muslim cleric and Pakistani politician. [1] He is among the leaders of the Bharchundi Shareef Dargah,and a locally influential figure. [2] Haq was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from Constituency NA-200 (Ghotki-I) as a candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in 2008 Pakistani general election. [2] [3] He received 59,022 votes and defeated Khalid Ahmed Khan Lund,a candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) (PML-Q). [4]
Haq has been criticized for his alleged role in forcibly converting Hindus,including minors,to Islam. [5] [6] Haq has been the target of protests against these alleged conversions. [5] [1] He became the subject of media attention in 2012 after the high-profile case of Rinkle Kumari,a Hindu woman who converted to Islam in the Bharchundi Shareef Dargah. Members of the Hindu community stated that she had been kidnapped and converted against her will,and that Haq had sheltered her kidnappers and threatened her into saying she had chosen to convert. Following his alleged involvement in the case,the PPP selected a different candidate to contest the 2013 Pakistani general election. [2] [7] Haq ran as an independent candidate in the 2013 general election. He received 69 votes and lost the seat to Ali Gohar Khan Mahar. In the same election,he ran for the seat of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh as an independent candidate from Constituency PS-5 (Ghotki-I) but was again unsuccessful. He received 19 votes and lost the seat to Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar. [8] In 2015,he was invited by former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman,Imran Khan,to join his political party,a decision that was reversed after protests from the Hindu community. [9] [10] In 2021,Imran Khan's government invited him to a Council of Islamic Ideology deliberation on legislation around forced conversion,a move that was strongly opposed by activists and the Hindu community in Pakistan. [11]
On 9 December 2022,the UK government sanctioned Abdul Haq for forced conversions and marriages of girls and women from religious minorities. [12]
Hinduism is the second largest religious affiliation in Pakistan after Islam. While Hinduism was one of the dominant faiths in the region a few centuries back,today Hindus account for 2.14% of Pakistan's population or 4.4 million people according to the 2017 Pakistan Census,although Pakistan Hindu Council has claimed that there are 8 million Hindus living in Pakistan,making up 4% of the country's population. The Umerkot district has the highest percentage of Hindu residents in the country at 52.2%,while Tharparkar district has the most Hindus in absolute numbers at 714,698.
Daharki is a city in Ghotki District in the Sindh province of Pakistan. It is the capital of Daharki Taluka,an administrative subdivision of the district. It is situated about 100 km northeast of Sukkur,between Mirpur Mathelo and Ubauro on Pakistan's N-5 National Highway. According to the 2017 Census of Pakistan it is the 93rd largest city of Pakistan,having population of 103,557.
Sardar Ghulam Muhammad Khan Mahar was chief of the Mahar tribe,and a prominent politician and philanthropist of the Sukkur District. He was first elected as a member of National Assembly of Pakistan in 1964. He became senator in 1973 with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He was elected a member of the National Assembly in 1977 general elections as the PPP candidate from NA-152 Sukkur II,he was elected Chairman District Council Sukkur in 1979 and remained until 1983. He was Minister for Agriculture when General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq was the Martial Law Administrator. He won general elections of March 1985 as an independent candidate,and remained Minister of State for Health from 22 December 1986 to 29 May 1988 in Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Khan Junejo's cabinet. In 1988,post Gen Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq era elections,he was defeated by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP's) candidate Mian Abdul Haq Alias Mian Mitho. He became a member of National Assembly once again in October 1993 by contesting general elections from NA-152 as the candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and afterward he died in April 1995.
Sardar Ali Mohammad Khan Mahar;12 January 1967 –21 May 2019) was a Pakistani politician who served as the 25th Chief Minister of Sindh from 2002 to 2004 and then as the Federal Minister for Narcotics Control between 2018 and 2019.
Religious discrimination in Pakistan is a serious issue for the human rights situation in modern-day Pakistan. Hindus,Christians,Sikhs,Shias,and Ahmadis among other religious minorities often face discrimination and at times are even subjected to violence. In some cases Christian churches and the worshippers themselves have been attacked. Khawaja Nazimuddin,the 2nd Prime Minister of Pakistan,stated:"I do not agree that religion is a private affair of the individual nor do I agree that in an Islamic state every citizen has identical rights,no matter what his caste,creed or faith be".

General elections were held in Pakistan on Wednesday,25 July 2018 to elect the members of 15th National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies. The three major parties were Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Khan,the Pakistan Muslim League led by Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistan Peoples Party led by Bilawal Bhutto. The PTI won the most seats in the National Assembly but fell short of a majority;the party subsequently formed a coalition government with several smaller parties. At the provincial level,the PTI remained the largest party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP);the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) retained its dominance in Sindh and the newly formed Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) emerged as the largest party in Balochistan. In Punjab,the result was a hung parliament with the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) winning the most seats. However,after several independents MPAs joined the PTI,the latter became the largest party and was able to form a government.

He previously had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan,from June 2013 to May 2018 and had been a member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh from 1993 to 1999.

Dargah-e-Aliya Bharchundi Shareef Dargah is situated 8 km from railway station of Daharki in Ghotki District in the Sindh province of Pakistan The Bharchundi Sharif is notorious for giving protection to convert to Islam and are known to have the support and protection of ruling political parties and state. According to the media reports,between 2014 and 2017,more than 150 Hindu girls were allegedly forcefully converted to Islam in the Bharchundi Shariff.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement,or PDM,is a coalition of political parties in Pakistan. It was founded in September 2020 as a movement against the prime minister Imran Khan,accusing his regime of poor governance,political victimisation of opponents,and mismanaging the economy and foreign policy. The struggle was also joined by several dissident members of Khan's own party,Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). On 10 April 2022,the coalition succeeded to oust Khan through a no-confidence motion,after which the PDM formed its own government,choosing the opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif as the country's prime minister.
On September 15,2019,in Ghotki city of Sindh province of Pakistan,a large number of extremist Muslims desecrated three Hindu temples,a private school and attacked shops and houses belonging to the Hindu community over the allegation of blasphemy against the Hindu principal of the Sindh Public School made by a school student. A delegation investigating the attack found that the attacks were pre-planned and had political support.
In Pakistan,it is estimated that several hundred people belonging to the minority Hindu,Christian,and Sikh communities are kidnapped and forcefully converted or coerced through societal pressures to convert to Islam each year. Jürgen Schaflechner,a cultural anthropologist specializing on Hindus in Pakistan,states that these conversions are rarely motivated by religious zeal,and are instead a consequence of the commodification of and denial of agency to women in a deeply patriarchal society.
