Aldo Adolfo Leiva (born 10 January 1963) is an Argentine politician and Falklands War veteran,currently serving as National Deputy elected in Chaco Province. A member of the Justicialist Party,Leiva was elected in 2019,and currently sits in the Frente de Todos parliamentary bloc. He previously served as intendente (mayor) of General Joséde San Martín,Chaco on two occasions,from 2009 to 2019,and from 2003 to 2008.
Leiva was born on 1 October 1963 in General Joséde San Martín,Chaco Province. [1] He did his military service (then mandatory) in the 4th Infantry Regiment of the Argentine Army,based in Monte Caseros,Corrientes. [2] In 1982,when he was 19 years old,he was called upon to fight in the Falklands –Malvinas War. [3] Leiva fought in the Battle of Two Sisters. [4]
Leiva is married to Rosana Miner and has four children. [1]
Following the war,from 1982 to 1983,Leiva was employed as an undersecretary of the Municipal Council of General Joséde San Martín. Later,from 1987 to 1988,he was a legislative aide at the Chamber of Deputies of the province. He was also Secretary of Public Works and Services of San Martín from 1989 to 1990. From 1997 to 2000,he was government secretary of Ciervo Petiso. [1] Leiva has served as president of the Chaco Province Justicialist Party, [5] and has been Secretary General of the party council since 2016. [6]
In 2003,he was elected intendente (mayor) of his hometown of General Joséde San Martín. He was re-elected in 2007. [7] In November 2008,he was appointed Minister of Social Development of Chaco Province by Governor Jorge Capitanich. [5] He was removed from the post following poor showings in the province's social indexes in July 2009, [8] and returned to his position as mayor of San Martín,as he had not resigned,but rather taken leave from the position. He was re-elected in 2011 and 2015.
At the 2019 legislative election,Leiva was the second candidate in the Frente Chaqueño list to the Chamber of Deputies. The list was the most voted with 56.70% of the vote,and Leiva was easily elected,alongside the first candidate in the list,Lucila Masin. [9] Leiva was succeeded in the mayoralty of San Martín by his son,Mauro Leiva. [10]
During his 2019–2023 term,Leiva formed part of the parliamentary commissions on Housing and Urban Planning,Finances,Industry,Public Works,and Transport. [1] He was an opponent of the legalization of abortion in Argentina,voting against the 2020 Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy bill that passed the Argentine Congress. [11]
Jorge Milton Capitanich is an Argentine politician,businessman,and accountant. He served as Governor of Chaco Province from 2007 to 2013,from February to December 2015,and later from 2019 to 2023. A member of the Justicialist Party,he previously served as Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers from 2013 until 2015,serving under President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner,as intendente (mayor) of Chaco's capital city,Resistencia,and as National Senator,representing Chaco as well. Since 2007 he has also been president of the Club Atlético Sarmiento.
Sergio Tomás Massa is an Argentine politician who served as Minister of Economy from 2022 to 2023. From 2019 to 2022,he was the National Deputy for the centre-left coalition Frente de Todos,elected in Buenos Aires Province,and the President of the Chamber of Deputies.
Ricardo Clemente Quintela is an Argentine Justicialist Party politician who is currently Governor of La Rioja Province,since 11 December 2019.
Analía Alexandra Rach Quiroga is an Argentine politician,currently serving as Vice Governor of Chaco Province,alongside Governor Jorge Capitanich,since 10 December 2019. From 2015 to 2019,Rach Quiroga was a National Deputy elected in Chaco Province for the Front for Victory.
Juan Carlos Bacileff Ivanoff is an Argentine politician who served as interim governor of Chaco Province from 2013 to 2015. He was vice governor of Chaco from 2007 to 2015,serving under Jorge Capitanich;upon Capitanich's appointment as Cabinet Chief of Argentina in November 2013,Bacileff Ivanoff stepped in as governor in interim position until Capitanich's dismissal in February 2015.
María Lucila Masin is an Argentine politician. She served as a National Deputy elected in Chaco Province,first elected in 2015 for the Front for Victory,and later re-elected in 2019 as part of the Frente de Todos.
Alicia Terada is an Argentine politician who served as a National Deputy elected in Chaco Province. A member of the Civic Coalition ARI,Terada was first elected in 2009,serving a four-year term until 2013. Despite running for re-election in 2013,she only took office in 2014 in replacement of Miguel Ángel Tejedor. She sat in the Juntos por el Cambio parliamentary inter-bloc from 2019 to 2021.
