The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Eastern part of Nigeria. Founded by Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955 and formally opened on 7 October 1960, the University of Nigeria has three campuses in Enugu State–Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla – and the Aba campus in Abia State.
Eni Njoku was a Nigerian botanist and educator. He was vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (1962–1965) and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1966–1970). He served in the Nigerian House of Representatives as federal minister of Mines and Power, and was chairman of the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria. He was an emissary at OAU-sponsored peace talks.

Chukwuedu Nathaniel II Nwokolo was a Nigerian physician specialist in tropical diseases. He was recognised for discovering and mapping out the area of paragonimiasis lung disease in Eastern Nigeria, with a study of the disease in Africa and clinical research for its control. He founded SICREP: Sickle Cell Research Programme to effectively fight the disease in Nigeria and globally.

Francis Sulemanu Idachaba, NNOM, OFR was a Nigerian professor of Agricultural Economics, chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian National Merit Award and vice chancellor of Kogi State University. He was the first vice chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, a position he held from 1988 to 1995.
Cyril Agodi Onwumechili was a Nigerian physicist, academic administrator, and professor of geophysics at the University of Ibadan and later University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was the fourth Vice Chancellor of the University of Ife from January 1979 to December 1982 and the former President/Vice Chancellor of the Anambra State University of Technology, Enugu, Nigeria, from January 1983 to December 1986. He delivered the Ahiajoku lecture on 20 November 2000. He was the first Nigerian geophysicist and the second president of the Nigerian Academy of Science. He was elected as president of the Academy in 1979 to succeed Professor Victor Adenuga Oyenuga, the first emeritus professor of the University of Ibadan and the first African professor of Agricultural science.
Umaru Shehu was a Nigerian physician and academic administrator. He held significant positions in several universities, including the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University, and the University of Maiduguri. He was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN).

Frank Nwachukwu Ndili was the 1st Nigerian Nuclear Physicist and the 7th Vice Chancellor (President) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He served as Vice Chancellor (President) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka from 1980 until he was succeeded by professor Chimere Ikoku in 1985. He left the office after a long and controversial investigation by the panel of inquiry. However, he is believed to have been forthright even where his predecessor Umaru Shehu (1978-1979) threaded carefully. He is credited with being one of the most visionary Vice Chancellors of the University. During Professor Ndili's Vice-Chancellorship, effort was undertaken for the first time to rebuild and refurbish the University of Nigeria following its devastation by the Nigerian Civil War. Ndili envisioned that the University would be destined for world-class status and designed a Master Plan to that effect. Today, the grand University entryway, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, the School of General Studies, and the Faculty of Arts Complex stand as testimony to his grand vision. He is not only a scientist, he is a great teacher, a top administrator, and a positive strategist.
Charles Arizechukwu Igwe is a Nigerian professor of soil science and the 15th Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He joined the university in the year 1976 as a soil survey assistant and in 1976 he became an academic staff of the institution. In 2016, Charles was appointed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and re-appointed in 2018.
Joy Ngozi Ezeilo is a Nigerian professor of public law and a six-year United Nations Special Rapporteur on Trafficking persons in Africa. She is a former Commissioner for Gender and Social Development, Enugu State, a senior advocate of Nigeria and an activist. She was a former Dean and HOD of faculty of law University of Nigeria Nsukka and the founder of the Women Aid Collective (WACOL). She is a receipent of Officer of the Order of Niger (OON) and one of the 2022 BBC 100 Women
Godwin Osakpemwoya Samuel EkhaguereNNOM is a Nigerian professor of mathematics at the University of Ibadan and the founder and president of the International Centre for Mathematical & Computer Sciences (ICMCS). He was a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany, a former sub Dean of Faculty of Science University of Ibadan and is a member of the African Academy of Sciences. He is also a recipient of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) which was conferred on him by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Gordian Obumneme Ezekwe was a Nigerian inventor, mechanical engineer and former federal Minister of Science and Technology under Ibrahim Babangida from 1989 to 1991. As the head of the Rocket Group of the Biafran Research and Production Directorate, he was notable for supervising the invention of the Biafran rocket and building a refinery for producing fuel, kerosene and diesel during the Nigerian Civil War. It is worthy of note that as minister of science and technology in 1991, 21 years after the civil war, he didn’t forget one of the major contributors under his Research and Production team during the civil war. He recognized Engineer Romanus Okonkwo Nduagubam, a notable member of his research and production team during the war for his tremendous efforts and design/ development of a highly efficient machine that churned out tens of thousands of percussion caps which helped wage the war and sustain the biafrans, with a National award for excellence in Engineering and Technology. He was also involved in the production of the Ogbunigwe. He was a former Director of the Projects Development Agency (PRODA), first Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Agency For Science and Engineering, Infrastructure (NASENI), and founder of Science Equipment Development Institute (SEDI). Prof. Gordian Ezekwe was the first Nigerian PhD in Mechanical Engineering (1959)
Walter Okwundu Enwezor is a professor of soil science, an agriculturist and former Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His administration is notable for introducing the idea of “farm year”, that is, one year of practical farm work experience by undergraduate students. This idea was adopted by other Nigerian universities. Enwezor was also former President of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria from 1984 1988.
Zephrinus Chidubem Njoku is a Professor of science education, an educator and former Head of the Department of Science Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was resource person for UNESCO's Education for Sustainable Future Programme. in 1999 and author/ co-author of more than one hundred publications and over 440 total citations.
